WOMEN'S LACROSSE CLOSES OUT REGULAR SEASON WITH 17-7 LOSS TO SIMMONS

Three goals by sophomore Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) and two from freshman Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) gave Emmanuel a fighting chance again Simmons College, but the Saints ultimately fell to the Sharks, 17-7 on Saturday afternoon in Boston, Mass. The loss moves the Saints to 3-9 for the season.
Simmons scored first with a free position goal from junior Lee Sutherland (Tufftonboro, N.H.) six minutes into play. Leahy would respond for Emmanuel off another free position shot within the next minute to tie the score at one. Simmons went on to score the next four goals unanswered and headed into the half with a 7-3 lead.
In the second half Simmons was quick to get back on the board with a goal from sophomore Meg Coffey (Wilmot, N.H.) with less than two minutes off the clock off a pass from freshman Seneca Martensson (East Longmeadow, Mass.).
The Saints found four more goals in the second half from seniors Megan Clary (Woonsocket, R.I.), and Kristina Marik (Airmont, N.Y.), as well as two more from Leahy following five-goal run from Simmons.
Simmons would earn a 17-7 win in the end.
Leahy led Emmanuel with six shots, all on goal, while freshman Michaela Brennan (Worcester, Mass.) notched four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sophomore Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) picked up the win for the Sharks making 11 saves, while Hillary Dandurant made the start for the Saints and totaled 11 stops.
