CARR TALLIES A SEASON-HIGH EIGHT GOALS BUT WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO SAINT JOSEPH'S COLLEGE, 17-11
April 13, 2011
Junior Logan Carr scored a single-game high of eight goals on Wednesday evening but the Saints were unable to comeback to top Saints Joseph's College (Maine) and the Monks earned a 17-11 victory. The Saints fell to 2-7 on the season while the Monks improved to 4-4.
Despite the rainy conditions, the two teams burst out of the opening draw with strong play amidst the wet weather. The Monks found the back of the net early on and took a 3-0 lead in the first 10 minutes. Junior Megan Cutter (Westbrook, Maine) tallied a goal and an assist in the opening minutes while senior Alyssa Marchant (Wakefield, Mass.) added a score.
The Saints got back and track soon after and traded goals back and forth with Saints Joseph's College for the next six minutes. Carr scored the first two with sophomore Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) notching one for the Saints.
After a few more goals by the visitors, including two by Marchant, Carr scored three more times for Emmanuel with senior Kristina Marik (Airmont, N.Y.) tallying her 11th goal of the season at the 2:32 mark of the frame. Ultimately, the Monks would take a 10-7 lead into halftime.
Saint Joseph's College opened the second half with strength, scoring six goals before the Saints could tally one of their own. Marchant, still with the hot hand, scored five of the six for the Monks and the visitors grabbed a 16-7 lead with just under 10 minutes to play.
However, Emmanuel was not ready to call it quits. The Saints pulled together and scored four more times in the contest with Carr adding three more and Leahy, one. The final whistle ended the game with the score 17-11 in favor of the Monks.
Senior Megan Clary (Woonsocket, R.I.) added an assist for the Saints while sophomore Alexandra Murray (Tuftonboro, N.H.) tallied her first collegiate point in the loss.
Emmanuel freshman goalie Hillary Dandurant (Merrimac, Mass.) tied her single-game high of 12 saves for the Saints. The Monks split the two halves for their goalies with Junior Taylor Allison (Pawtucket, R.I.) notching a save in the first half and freshman Haley Nason (Saco, Maine) stopping four shots in the second.
Marchant would finish the contest with a game-high 10 goals scored for the Monks. The Saints will next travel to play Pine Manor College this Saturday at noon.
