MOUNT IDA TOPS EMMANUEL IN GNAC WOMEN'S LACROSSE

NEWTON, Mass. - Behind a game-high five goal, four assist performance from freshman attacker Amanda Bowen (Randolph, VT.), the Mount Ida College women's lacrosse team snapped a three game losing skid with a 17-9 victory over Emmanuel College. The Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest was played on Tuesday evening in Newton, Mass.
Prior to the start of the game, Mount Ida conducted a NCAA Division III week celebration, which honored an Associate Professor from the college's School of Business. Division III week celebrates the unique Division III student-athlete experience, which offers a highly competitive athletics environment, a commitment to academic excellence and time to pursue other interests. The week serves as an opportunity for all individuals associated Division III institutions or conferences to observe the impact of athletics on campus.
The Mustangs used a 6-0 run early in the first half to distance themselves from the Saints. Mount Ida never trailed, scoring the first two goals of the contest eventually pulling away 10-3 following the big 6-0 drive. Emmanuel fought hard and eventually cut the lead to three goals with 18 minutes to go in the game, but the hosts compiled a 5-0 run to round out the contest for the 17-9 GNAC victory.
Mount Ida improves to an overall record of 3-8 with a league slate of 3-3 hovering around a play-off spot, while the visitors fall to 4-8 for the year with a conference standing of 2-6.
Bowen, who also recorded a game-high 11 ground balls, was followed by a four goal performance from freshman attacker Kaitlyn Affhauser (Cheshire, Mass.). Junior Alexandria Milot (Tiverton, R.I.) and sophomore Molly Sheppard (Brookhaven, N.Y.) chipped in three goals apiece with Milot adding two dishes. Junior midfielder Alison Koning (Carlisle, Mass.) tallied a goal and an assist while sophomore Christina Gedick (Acton-Boxboro, Mass.) notched a score.
For the visitors senior Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), junior Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) and freshman Madison Altwies (Southington, Conn.) all scored three goals each with Altwies and Leahy also chipping in a dish each.
Mount Ida netminder Kayla Musty (Topsham, VT/Oxbow) was outstanding collecting 13 saves in the win, while Emmanuel goaltender, sophomore Hillary Dandurant (Merrimack, MA/Pentucket Regional) made three saves.
The Mustangs will travel to GNAC member Anna Maria College this Saturday in Paxton, Massachusetts with game time slated for 12:30 p.m. Emmanuel will host Daniel Webster College in a non-conference match-up on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the start of the 3:00PM contest, Emmanuel's senior captain Logan Call will be honored.
