WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO RIVIER IN SECOND GNAC CONTEST OF THE SEASON
March 30, 2011
The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team dropped a 24-9 contest to visiting Rivier College on Wednesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. With the loss, the Saints fell to 1-4 on the season while the Raiders improved to 5-1.
The game started fairly evenly with Rivier grabbing the first two goals, but Emmanuel junior Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) helped the Saints find their footing with two goals while sophomore Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) added another.
For the Raiders, junior Alyssa Renaud (Goffstown, N.H.) found the back of the net twice in the first 10 minutes with freshman Jessica Amaral (East Providence, R.I.) scored three in under five minutes to give Rivier a 7-3 edge.
Not wanting to fall behind, Emmanuel responded with sophomore Jessica Lucas' second goal of the season on a free position shot while Leahy added another to cut the Rivier lead to two. The visitors would take control of the final 10 minutes of the frame and notch six straight goals to send the two teams into halftime with the score 13-5.
Emmanuel showed great poise at the start of the second half, scoring five quick goals off the sticks of seniors Kristina Marik (Airmont, N.Y.) and Megan Clary (Woonsocket, R.I.) and freshman Jenny Konecnik (Sparta, N.J.) to help pull Emmanuel back to within six with a 15-9 score.
The Raiders would control the remainder of the game by tallying nine straight goals to finish out the contest and give them a 24-9 victory.
Emmanuel goalkeeper Hillary Dandurant made 11 saves for the Saints in the loss while sophomore Caleigh Bertolaccini tallied six stops in the win.
The Saints will embark on two road games, playing at Emerson College this Saturday at 3:00 p.m. and then at Norwich University next Wednesday at 4:00 p.m. Emmanuel will return to play at home against Saint Joseph College (Conn.) on Saturday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m.
