LASERS ROLL PAST SAINTS TO REMAIN UNBEATEN IN GNAC PLAY

BOSTON, Mass. - The Lasell College Lasers remained undefeated in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Lacrosse action on Tuesday night, handily topping the Saints of Emmanuel College, 23-4. With the win, Lasell improves to 7-1 in the year, while Emmanuel drops to 2-4 overall and 1-3 in league play.
Lasell got big numbers two different players, who each recorded 7 points on the night. The Lasers were led by 5 goals and 2 assists from leading scorer, Britney Wuorio (Bolton, Mass.) as well as junior Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, Mass.). Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, Mass.) and Bridget Ryan (Chatham, N.Y.) notched 4 goals apiece in the win.
The Lasers stormed out to an early lead, netting four goals in the opening five minutes of action, including two off of right-side clear-outs for Wuorio. Two more Lasell markers in the sixth minute of action gave the visitors a 6-0 advantage.
Emmanuel got on the board with a free position goal by senior attacker Logan Carr (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.). After consecutive Laser goals by Stanton and Slattery, Carr struck again with an unassisted shot and Emmanuel trailed, 8-2, with six minutes to play in the half.
The Lasers would score two more times before the horn and took a 10-2 lead into the break at halftime. Lasell led the Saints in first half shots, 19-7, and in ground balls, 14-7.
Coming out of the half, the Lasers got goals from Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, Conn.) and Erin Gertonson (Bayport, N.Y.) to take a 12-2 lead. Emmanuel junior middie Madeline Leahy (Cohasset, Mass.) then scored off an assist from Shannen Corrigan (Southington, Conn.) to set the score at 12-3.
The visitors dominated the next twenty minutes of action, scoring ten-straight times, including three goals from Slattery and 2 from sophomore midfielder Jen Lemoine (Trumbull, Conn.) to bring the spread to 22-3.
GNAC Rookie of the Week Alexia Basile (West Hartford, Conn.) buried a free position shot in the final minute for Emmanuel's fourth goal of the night. The Lasers would then tack on one more before the clock expired for a final score of 23-4.
Freshman goalie Alexa Katsigianis (Amherst, N.H.), who was named this week's GNAC Goalie of the Week, picked up her 7th win of the season, making 4 saves in the effort. Emmanuel goalie, Hillary Dandurant (Merrimac, N.H.) played the full 60 minutes for the Saints and recorded 8 saves.
Lasell finished the night out-shooting Emmanuel, 36-11. The Lasers collected 17 groundballs, while the Saints grabbed 12. Lasell was 9 for 11 on clear attempts for the night.
Emmanuel will take to the road this Saturday, March 31, playing at Anna Maria College in GNAC contest, scheduled to begin at 1pm.
