HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Chargers and Saints battled through the first quarter with the sides scoring nine goals between them, all by different players. Chargers junior Sydney Stevens (Laconia, N.H) opened the scoring just 13 seconds into the game while Saints first-year Alyssa Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) capped off the scoring in the first quarter as the horn sounded, seeing EC lead 5-4 after a quarter.
- After a high-scoring first, a defensive quarter broke out in the second. The goalies combined for 10 saves in the quarter, leading to just two goals, both scored by Emmanuel. Franca and senior Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.) scored 89 seconds apart, helping EC to a 7-4 halftime lead.
- Franca added to her afternoon in the third quarter, scoring four of the Saints seven goals in the frame. After trading goals through the middle of the quarter, EC found themselves up 10-7, until Franca struck three consecutive times in a span of 2:16, helping the Saints surge ahead to a 13-7 lead.
- Saints first-year Rachel Canedy (Woodstock, Conn.) scored a pair of man-up goals to finish the third and start the fourth, upping the EC lead to 15-7. Emmanuel would lead by as many as 10 before Chargers first-year Heather Hanson (Marston Mills, Mass.) finished off the scoring late in the game, as the Saints earned a critical 18-9 GNAC win on Saturday afternoon.
