THE LEAD – For the first time in program history, four different Saints scored at least four goals in a game, as the Emmanuel offense exploded for a 23-9 win over Rivier University on Saturday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The opening quarter saw a flurry of action that ended with the Saints leading 5-4 after 15 minutes. EC junior Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine) netted three goals over the span of 4:27 for the first goals of the game for Emmanuel. RU first-year Rachel Hinkley (Swedesboro, N.J.) scored twice for Rivier, as the Raiders trailed by one after the first quarter.
- The goals kept coming in the second quarter for the Saints as a season-high nine goals for Emmanuel would help open up an eight-goal edge. First-year Rachel Canedy (Woodstock, Conn.) scored a hat trick in the quarter while classmate Anna Drillen (Readfield, Maine) added two goals that helped launch EC to a 14-6 halftime lead.
- The first four goals of the third quarter went to Emmanuel, including a pair for senior Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.), all part of a 6-1 quarter that favored the Saints. In the fourth, EC added three more, including a pair for first-year Deja Srimouksavanh (Portsmouth, N.H.), as Emmanuel went on to a 23-9 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Steele, Drillen, Srimouksavanh, and senior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) were the quartet responsible for the program-first accomplishment, as all four finished with four goals on the day. Franca added two assists to move her over 100 career points at Emmanuel while Steele, Drillen, and Srimouksavanh all had one helper.
- Canedy added a hat trick, Borduas scored a pair, and senior Lincoln Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) and sophomore Alyssa Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) each scored once, rounding out the scoring for Emmanuel.
- Senior goalie Emma Crowley (Peterborough, N.H.) made seven saves, improving to 4-5 on the season.
- The 23-goal outburst is the most goals for EC since a March 19, 2019; a 23-3 win against Bay Path.
- First-year Raiders attack Sarah Lachance (Chelmsford, Mass.) led Rivier with a hat trick.
