Hutchings & Saef Join 100-Point Club in 18-8 Win Over Norwich
BOSTON, Mass. - Graduate student Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) joined the Emmanuel College women’s lacrosse 100-point club on Wednesday evening as the Saints topped Norwich University, 18-8, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Roberto Clemente Field.

THE LEAD: Graduate student Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) and senior Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) joined the Emmanuel College women's lacrosse 100-point club on Wednesday evening as the Saints topped Norwich University, 18-8, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Emmanuel took control of the action early, scoring the first five goals to jump out to a 5-0 advantage following Saef's fourth straight goal of the contest, assisted by Hutchings with 13:50 to play in the first half.
- The Cadets got two back from Emily Schromm (North Attleboro, Mass.) and Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock, Vt.) to make it 5-2 but Emmanuel closed the half on a 4-1 scoring spurt that included a pair of goals by junior Lincoln Hamblett (East Boothbay, Maine) to put EC ahead 9-3 at halftime.
- Senior Elizabeth Fortier (Newburyport, Mass.) scored back-to-back goals to open the second half to push the Emmanuel lead to 11-3 before Hutchings extended it to 13-4 with back-to-back scores of her own including that included her 100th career point with 24:28 left in the game.
- Saef followed suit at the 13:34 marker with her fourth goal of the action, becoming the 11th player in program history to hit the 100-point milestone, putting Emmanuel ahead 16-5.
- Poljacik and Schromm accounted for three straight Norwich goals late in the stanza to move the Cadets to within a 16-8 deficit before the Saints got the final two goals of the night including a man-down score by sophomore Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine) to wrap up the scoring at 18-8.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Saef finished with a career-high nine points on five goals and four assists while Hutching finished with four points on two goals and two helpers.
- Fortier and junior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) both scored three goals in the victory while Hamblett and Steele chipped in with two scores each.
- Schromm paced the Cadets with five points on four goals and one assist while Poljacik added three goals.
- EC junior goalie Emma Crowley (Peterborough, N.H.) earned the win, making six saves in goal while first year Maeve Noble-Lowe suffered the loss to drop to 0-3 on the season.
OF NOTE
- Prior to the start of the game, the Saints honored its four seniors in Hutchings, Saef, Fortier and Olivia Mahoney (Leominster, Mass.) in a brief senior day ceremony.
- Emmanuel moves to 7-3 all-time vs. the Cadets in 10 career meetings.
