THE LEAD: A strong half defensive effort lifted Emmanuel College over Simmons University, 14-6, Saturday morning in NCAA Division III women's lacrosse action on Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- EC junior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) opened the scoring in the ninth minute of play to give the Saints a 1-0 but the Sharks responded to even the game at 1-1 on a score by Lauren Whitman (Mansfield, Mass.) with 18:12 to play in the half.
- Over the final 17 minutes in the period, Emmanuel held the Sharks scoreless allowing for their offense to go to work and build a 7-1 lead heading into the break on three goals by senior Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.), a pair by senior Elizabeth Fortier (Newburyport, Mass.) and a tally from junior Jessica Borduas (Woodbury, Conn.).
- The Saints put the game away with two early goals in the second half to increase the lead to 9-1 with scores by grad student Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) and Franca.
- Whiteman ended Emmanuel's 8-0 run with her second goal of the action to pull Simmons to a 9-2 score with 23:01 left in the action.
- Following an minute lull in the scoring, EC got into double-figures on another goal by Fortier to make it 10-2 with 14:30 remaining.
- The squads played even lacrosse over the game's final 11 minutes, each scoring four goals to account for the 14-6 final. Saef scored three for the Saints while Hutchings added the other score. For the Sharks, Samantha Hogan (Westborough, Mass.) found the net twice while Whitman and Marita Nothacker (Philadelphia, Pa.) accounted for the other markers.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Saef matched her career-high once again with eight points (6 goals, 2 assists) while Fortier chipped in with four points on three goals and one assist.
- Junior goalkeeper Emma Crowley (Peterborough, N.H.) registered the win to move to 6-0 on the year in goal making nine saves.
- Junior Nicole Elliott (Wayne, N.J.) suffered the loss in goal for Simmons, making five saves to fall to 1-2 on the year in net.
- Emmanuel has now won seven straight dating back to the 2020 campaign marking the longest winning-streak since an eight-game unbeaten stretch in 2016.

- Both squads wrap up the regular-season on Wednesday, April 21. The Saints play host to Norwich University at 7:00 PM while the Sharks travel to Anna Maria College for a 6:00 PM start.
