Women's Lacrosse Cruises Past Rivier to Stay Unbeaten

THE LEAD: Nine different players registered points in Emmanuel College's 17-1 victory over Rivier University Wednesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Saints opened the game up quickly, scoring six goals over the first nine minutes of action including three scores by sophomore Megan Steele (Auburn, Maine).
- Emmanuel continued to build its lead, scoring 13 times before halftime while holding the Raiders scoreless during the half to take a commanding 13-0 lead into the break.
- Madeleine Beem made it 14-0 with a goal 5:36 into the second half before the Raiders got on the board with a Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, N.H.) free position shot score with 19:42 to play.
- Down the stretch, EC added a goal by senior Emily Saef (Moultonborough, N.H.) followed by a pair of scores by graduate student Allison Hutchings (Billerica, Mass.) to account for the 17-1 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
- Steele and junior Chandra Franca (Woburn, Mass.) each finished the action with four scores while Hutchings finished the game with three goals.
- EC outshot Rivier by a 39-4 margin on the night.
- Junior goalkeeper Emma Crowley (Peterborough, N.H.) registered the win making two saves over 30 minutes of action while first year goalie Gabby Serra (New Bedford, Mass.) played well in the second half making a stop in 30 minutes of net time.
- First year Lindsey Kruger (New Bedford, Mass.) made eight saves in net for Rivier and falls to 0-2 on the year.
- With the win, the Saints extend their best start in program history to 5-0.
UP NEXT
- EC returns to action on Saturday, April 17 when they face Simmons at 9:00 AM at Roberto Clemente Field for a "road" game.
- Rivier wraps up its 2021 season the same day, traveling to Newton, Mass. to take on Lasell University at 11:00 AM in their season-finale.
