HIGGINS NAMED GNAC & ECAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior middie Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week as well as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Player of the Week. Higgins earns GNAC honors for the second time this season and it marks the third straight week that an Emmanuel Saint has garnered the accolade as senior Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) earned the honor last week.
BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior middie Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) has been named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Women's Lacrosse Player of the Week as well as the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Division III Player of the Week. Higgins earns GNAC honors for the second time this season and it marks the third straight week that an Emmanuel Saint has garnered the accolade as senior Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) earned the honor last week.
Last week, Higgins lifted the Saints to a perfect 3-0 record by recording 23 points on 15 goals and eight assists. She opened the week with a four goal, four assist performance in a win over Simmons before collecting a six-goal outing in a non-conference victory over Regis. Higgins wrapped the week with a five goal, four assist afternoon in a 22-7 GNAC win over Mount Ida. The senior also added 21 draw control wins, 19 groundballs and 12 caused turnovers for EC on the week.
Higgins is enjoying a stellar senior campaign and currently ranks in the top five in the GNAC in almost every single offensive category. Higgins ranks first overall in points (71), first in ground balls (60), first in caused turnovers (37), second in draw controls (78), second in assists (26), third in goals scored (45), and fourth in shots (87).
Over her career, Higgins has amassed 197 points on 140 goals and 57 assists. She ranks second in EC program history in goals, points and third in assists.
Higgins and the Saints return to action this evening in a key GNAC showdown against Saint Joseph's College (ME). Both teams head into the game undefeated in conference play with the Saints owning a 6-0 record and the Monks at 5-0. Game time is set for 8:00 PM at Deering Memorial Stadium.
