WOMEN'S LACROSSE POSTS SECOND STRAIGHT SHUTOUT WITH 19-0 WIN OVER USJ
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) had four goals and five assists to lead the Emmanuel College women’s lacrosse team to a 19-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game.
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.) had four goals and five assists to lead the Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team to a 19-0 victory over the University of Saint Joseph Saturday in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference game.
Emmanuel improved to 4-2 overall and 2-0 in the GNAC; USJ is 3-3 overall and 0-2 in the conference. It was the second consecutive 19-0 win for the Saints, which defeated Albertus Magnus by the same count on Tuesday, marking the first time in program historty that the team has posted back-to-back shutouts.
Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) had four goals and four assists for Emmanuel and Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.) had four goals and two assists. Abaigeal Merrigan (N.H.) scored three goals for the Saints and Amanda Cook (Saco, Maine) had two. Higgins also had game-highs of seven ground balls, nine draw controls and six caused turnovers. Emmanuel led 14-0 at halftime.
Danielle Bazzano (South Windsor, Conn.) generated the Blue Jays lone shot on goal in the final minute of the game as Emmanuel outshot USJ, 29-1. Emily Bourassa made eight saves in net for St. Joseph.
USJ is at Norwich, Tuesday, April 5 in a GNAC game beginning at 4 p.m. Emmanuel hosts Lasell Tuesday in a GNAC game at 7 p.m.
