WOMEN’S LAX CRUISES BY BECKER, 19-4, IN FLORIDA FINALE
BRADENTON, Fla. – 13 different players scored to lead the Emmanuel College women’s lacrosse team past Becker College, 19-4, Tuesday afternoon in spring break action as part of the 19th Annual Spring Fling tournament. The Saints wrap up their trip south with a perfect 2-0 record while the contest was the season-opener for the Hawks who fall to 0-1.
BRADENTON, Fla. – 13 different players scored to lead the Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team past Becker College, 19-4, Tuesday afternoon in spring break action as part of the 19th Annual Spring Fling tournament. The Saints wrap up their trip south with a perfect 2-0 record while the contest was the season-opener for the Hawks who fall to 0-1.
In the opening minutes of play, EC freshman Stephanie Warn (Hanson, Mass.) netted her first collegiate goal to put the Saints on top 1-0 before Becker junior Rachel Welling (Charlestown, N.H.) tied the score at 1-1 with an unassisted score with 24:33 to play in the first half.
Over the next 17 minutes, the Saints put together a 10-0 scoring burst to take control of the contest. Three of the scores came from junior Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) while sophomore Abaigeal Merrigan (Rye, N.H.) netted two goals during the run.
The Hawks cut the score to 11-3 with back-to-back goals by Welling and senior Tatum Fahs (Foster, R.I.) with just over two minutes to play in the stanza before the Saints responded with a pair of goals in the final minute by sophomore Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.) to give the Saints a 13-3 advantage heading into halftime. Baker's goal came as tied expired, just beating the buzzer to give Emmanuel the 10 goal cushion at the break.
Following seven minutes of scoreless action to open the second half, Becker junior Kailee Ruyack (Beacon, N.Y.) made it a 13-4 game with her first goal of the year with 22:35 to play in the contest. Over the final 22 minutes, the Saints outscored the Hawks 6-0 to account for the 19-4 final. Freshman Avery Yang (Lincoln, R.I.), Emily Gilman (Windham, Maine) and Sophia White (Monterey, Calif.) all scored their first collegiate goals during the stretch.
EC junior goalie Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) picked up the win making six saves on the afternoon while freshman Brittney Bebeau (Harrisville, R.I.) made eight saves for the Hawks.
The Saints return to action on Saturday, March 14 when they head to Providence, R.I. to face Johnson & Wales University in their 2015 Great Northeast Athletic Conference opener. Becker is back in action this Thursday when they play Baldwin Wallace in more action in the 19th Annual Spring Fling tournament in Bradenton, Fla.
