BALANCED ATTACK LEADS WOMEN’S LAX PAST ALBERTUS MAGNUS, 17-1

BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College women's lacrosse team used a balanced offensive attack as 15 players scored goals in a 17-1 victory over Albertus Magnus College Saturday afternoon at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints improve to 5-2 on the year and stay perfect in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference at 5-0 while the loss drops the Falcons to 0-5 overall and 0-5 in the GNAC.

EC set the tone early, scoring the fastest goal in program history from the start of play, going ahead 1-0 just nine seconds into the contest as freshman middie Abaigeal Merrigan (Rye, N.H.) converted a pass from freshman attack Emily Baker (Stratham, N.H.). 31 seconds later, Baker made it 2-0 as Merrigan returned the favor to set up the freshman at the 29:20 marker.

Goals by veterans Sarah Higgins (Groveland, Mass.), Kristen Tuleja (Mansfield, Mass.) and Sarah Wootten (Berlin, Md.) bumped the Emmanuel lead to 5-0 with 25:59 left in the half. Tuleja scored again at the 18:36 marker before the Falcons defense showed poise, holding the hosts scoreless for the next 13:19.

Freshman middie Savannah Lundwall (Fiskdale, Mass.) ended the drought with her third goal of the year before freshman attack Amanda Cook (Saco, Maine) made it 8-0 with just over four minute left in the opening stanza.

Junior defender Shannen Corrigan (Southington, Conn.) got into the mix with her second goal of the campaign before junior defender Emma Mugerwa (Andover, Mass.) capped the first half's scoring to make it 10-0 heading intot he break.

The Saints continued to control play to open the second half as goals from freshman defender Juliana Rush (Milton, Mass.), sophomore attack Monica Burdick (Stonington, Conn.) and junior middie Alexia Basile (West Hartford, Conn.) bumped the Emmanuel lead to 13-0.

Albertus Magnus got on the board with 16:28 left to play as sophomore attack Halle Altieri (Guilford, Conn.) went coast to coast on a successful clear to make it 13-1. The score was her third of the year.

Freshman attack Kayleigh Rooney (Jamestown, R.I.) and Burdick scored goals midway through the half to make it 15-1. Freshman denfender Molly Goodhue (Brattleboro, Vt.) netted her second goal of the year on a man-up tally with 1:45 to play to make it 16-1 before freshman attack Haley Walinski (Lincoln, R.I.) capped the scoring with a free position shot conversion to account for the 17-1 final.

The Falcons were paced by junior midfielder Kelsey Proctor (Guilford, Conn.) who finished with a game-high four groundballs.

AMC sophomore goalie Erika Blechert (Durham, Conn.) played well in the loss, stopping 16 shots. EC sophomore Lauren White (Lynnfield, Mass.) picked up the win making one save.

Emmanuel returns to action on Tuesday, April 1 when they head to Nashua, N.H. to face Rivier University at 7:00 PM while the Falcons play host to Johnson & Wales the same day at 4:00 PM.
