COACH YOSINOFF A FINALIST FOR RED AUERBACH COACH OF THE YEAR AWARD
March 16, 2011
Congratulations to Emmanuel's Head Women's Basketball Coach Andy Yosinoff for being named one of five national finalists for the 2011 Red Auerbach Coach of the Year Award, presented by the Jewish Coaches Association. Yosinoff is the lone women's coach, as well as the only Division III coach, among the finalists. The winner will be presented the award at the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament's Final Four in Houston on April 2nd.
In his 34th year at the helm of the Saints, Yosinoff guided the team to a 21-8 record and its 16th NCAA Division III Tournament appearance. Emmanuel finished undefeated in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) during the regular season and went on to win the conference tournament title, beating Suffolk University, 83-67. This was Emmanuel's 5th-straight GNAC title and the program's 13th conference championship.
In addition to Yosinoff, finalists for the College Coach of the Year Award include: Gary Manchel, Mercyhurst College; Joe Pasternack, University of New Orleans; Josh Pastner, University of Memphis; and Keith Dambrot, University of Akron.
The Jewish Coaches Association was founded in 2006 and supports Jewish-American college, high school and youth basketball coaches around the United States. In 2009 the Association named its college coach of the year award after Red Auerbach, the coaching legend who won 938 games (a record at his retirement) and nine National Basketball Association (NBA) championships as a coach. As general manager and team president of the Celtics, he won an additional seven NBA titles, for a grand total of 16 in a span of 29 years, making him one of the most successful team officials ever in the history of professional sports. The 2010 Jewish Coaches Association College Coach of the Year Award went to Tennessee Men's Basketball Coach Bruce Pearl.
