KIRWAN NAMED PLAYER OF THE WEEK FOR 2ND-STRAIGHT WEEK
Feb. 16, 2011
Emmanuel College's Meghan Kirwan (Melrose, Mass.) was named the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the second-consecutive week. Kirwan received her most recent honor after the junior guard led Emmanuel to a 2-0 week with conference wins over Emerson College and Mount Ida College.
Kirwan shot an incredible 76.2% from the floor and 100% from 3-point range for the week, averaging a double-double of 16.5 points and 12.0 rebounds per game during the week. Kirwan scored 12 points and hauled in a game-high 18 rebounds against Emerson on Tuesday night. She then set a new GNAC record, as she shot 10 for 10 from the field and scored 21 points to lead the Saints over Mount Ida on Saturday. This was the first time any conference player has ever shot 100% from the floor, while attempting at least ten shots in a game. Kirwan also averaged 2 assists and 2 steals during this week.
Emmanuel is currently ranked in first place in the GNAC with an undefeated 9-0 conference record. The Saints boast a 15-7 overall mark, as they head into their final three regular season contests. Emmanuel will host Albertus Magnus on Tuesday (2/15) and Saint Joseph College on (2/17), before traveling to Johnson & Wales University on Saturday (2/19) for the final regular season game of the season.
