Women's Hoops Clinches No. 1 Seed in GNAC Tourney With 86-43 Win Over AMCats

THE LEAD – The Emmanuel College women's basketball team posted an 86-43 Great Northeast Athletic Conference victory Tuesday evening over Anna Maria College. The win was the program's 17^th straight as they improve to 15-0 in GNAC play and clinch the No. 1 seed in the 2022 GNAC tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After trading points to a 7-7 score, Emmanuel closed out the first quarter on a 25-8 run to take control of the action with a 33-15 lead through the first quarter
• The Saints put the game away in the second quarter, holding the AMCats to just six points on a 1-for-15 shooting effort in the period to open up a 54-21 halftime lead.
• Emmanuel got solid play from all 13 players that dressed in the second half, outscoring Anna Maria in the third 17-12 and in the fourth 15-10 to cruise to the 86-43 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

• Graduate student Jamad Fiin (Boston, Mass.) led all scorers with 14 points, going 2-for-2 from both behind the arc and at the charity stripe.
• Sophomore guard Olivia Matela (Swampscott, Mass.) finished the game with 11 points in 12 minutes of action while first year Desiree Robinson (New Haven, Conn.) added 10 points going a perfect 5-for-5 from the field.
• Franchesca Hammond (Worcester, Mass.) paced the AMCats with a team-high 10 points
• The 17-game win streak marks the longest unbeaten stretch since a 20-game winning streak in 2007.
• The Saints improve to 12-0 all-time vs. Anna Maria.
