NEWTON, Mass. – The Saints made it three-straight on Monday night with an 83-64 win at Lasell College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women's Basketball action. The loss left the Lasers at 7-8 overall and 0-2 in GNAC play, while Emmanuel improved to 10-5 for the season and 2-0 in league play.
Jennifer Bujownski (Salem, N.H.) came off the bench to record a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds for Emmanuel, while Vanessa Bramante (Stoneham, Mass.) chipped in 14 points and Liz Daley (Sharon, Mass.) added 12. The Saints placed 11 players in the scoring column and grabbed 23 offensive rebounds to offset a 7-27 shooting performance from behind the arc.
Alexis Chappell (Springfield, Mass.) scored a game-high 18 points for Lasell, one of four players in double figures for the hosts. Breeana Williams (Bloomfield, Conn.) added 14 points for Lasell, Katie Stopera (Hollis, N.H.) chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds and Kayla Vincelette (Westport, Mass.) finished with a dozen also.
Emmanuel opened the contest with 14-straight points, knocking down five of their first six shots courtesy of a three pointer and a layup by Liz Daley and a trifecta and a pair of baseline jumpers by Bramante. Lasell settled down and kept within striking range, but the Saints maintained their double-digit lead throughout the opening half, taking a 45-31 lead into the break.
Lasell cut the visitors lead to 51-42 with just over 15 minutes remaining, but a three pointer by Britni Mikulancez (Portland, Maine) and six-straights points from Sarah Schemerhorn (Los Angeles, Calilf.) put Emmanuel back in front by 15. The Saints pushed their lead up to 19 with just under 10 minutes on the clock, and fended off the Lasers' comeback efforts, never letting them closer than 14 the rest of the way.
Emmanuel will travel to non-conference and nationally-ranked foe Tufts University on Wednesday Jan. 22nd at 7:00 p.m. before resuming GNAC action on Saturday Jan. 25th when they visit Mount Ida College. Lasell will host Albertus Magnus College on Saturday as part of a 1 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. double header with the men's team.
