SAINTS SWEEP TRI-MATCH; EXTEND WIN STREAK TO TEN MATCHES

BOSTON, Mass. - The 11th-ranked Emmanuel Saints cruised past Albertus Magnus College and Lesley University, sweeping both teams in straight sets, in a tri-match played in the Jean Yawkey Center on Saturday afternoon. The two victories extended Emmanuel's win streak to ten matches, as the Saints improved to 25-7 on the season and 11-1 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The two Saturday losses dropped Albertus Magnus to 0-19 overall, while the split put Lesley at 5-15 on the season.
In the Saints' opening match, Emmanuel easily defeated Albertus, 30-6, 30-10, 30-20. Sophomore outside hitter Michael Mottola (Quincy, Mass.) led the Emmanuel offense with 6 kills in 6 swings, while rattling off 3 service aces. Junior middle Thomas McCaffrey (Massapequa, N.Y.) tacked on 4 kills, while freshman middle Zachary Caron (Hope, R.I.) notched a season-high 6 aces.
Emmanuel then knocked off Lesley in the third match of the day, with scores of 30-12, 30-24, 30-15. Junior outside hitter Tyson Rietz (Granite Bay, Calif.) led the way, hitting .909, with 10 kills in 11 swings, to go along with his 4 aces. Junior outside hitter Curtis Abram (San Luis Obispo, Calif.) racked up 7 kills, while McCaffrey, Matt Salvi (Trumbull, Conn.), Michael Townsend (Beaverdam, Va.) and Cam Todd (Los Angeles, Calif.) each accounted for 6 kills in the win. Junior setter Sean O'Connor (Hampstead, N.H.) dished out 22 assists for the Saints.
The Saints will take on the 14th-ranked Nighthawks of Newbury College this Thursday night in a non-conference match. This game will be played at 7pm at Hellenic College in Brookline, Mass.
