BOSTON - The Emmanuel College men's soccer team (6-10-1, 5-8-1 GNAC) heads into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference postseason in ninth place. After a tough September, going 1-7-1, the Saints have turned things around in October, where they secured victories in five of eight games played. Emmanuel beat Rivier University, 1-0, on Tuesday to clinch a spot in the GNAC playoffs.
Emmanuel will face Regis College (6-10, 6-8 GNAC) in the play-in round of the postseason on Thursday, Oct. 26 at 5:00 p.m. The teams last met on Sept. 23, where Emmanuel came out on top 2-0. The Saints' goals came from junior Nick DiPace (Watertown, Mass.) and senior Zachary Barown (Colebrook, Conn.). All-time, Emmanuel is 4-2-1 against Regis including a 3-0-1 record at Regis. This is the first time the two teams will meet in the playoffs.
Sophomore midfielder Joe Anderson (Tampa, Fla.) has been impressive so far this season. He has recorded three goals and one assist. Guilherme Silva (Malden, Mass.), a first-year forward for the Saints, has been making an impact on the field as well. He also has netted three goals to go along with one assist on the season.
First-year forward Seiki Thasith Jamnongnorawut (Bangkok, Thailand) has made his mark for the Saints. He earned GNAC Rookie of the Week accolades earlier this month on Oct. 9. The honors came after he scored his first collegiate goal in Oct. 7's 1-0 win over Albertus Magnus.
Regis first-year midfielder Michael Arguelles (Miami, Fla.) has made his presence known for the Pride. He has netted three goals and also recorded an assist. The same goes for senior forward Javin Stickney (Gorham, Maine).
Junior Federico Lavini-Ayalla (Weston, Fla.) has been impactful for Regis. He has netted two goals to go along with three assists. Lavini-Ayalla and Arguelles both earned GNAC weekly honors on Oct. 23. The junior recorded at least a point in all three matches of the week, while the first year recorded six total points.
In goal, the Pride will likely start Ethan Donahue (Methuen, Mass.) in net. He has recorded five wins including two shutouts to go along with nine losses. Saints sophomore Maddox Pierce (Meridan, Conn.) will get the start as Emmanuel's starting goalie, having made 16 starts this season. He has recorded 69 total saves and five shutouts with a 6-9-1 record.
The Saints qualify for the GNAC Postseason for a seventh consecutive season under Head Coach Dan Roberts. Back-to-back GNAC wins in the final week helped the Saints move into the playoff picture while Roberts became the winningest coach in program history. Regis makes a return to the conference postseason after missing out in 2022.
