BOSTON – Deadlocked at 2-2 in the final 15 minutes, Saints senior Adom Oshagan (Glendale, Calif.) scored his first goal of the season, lifting Emmanuel to a critical 3-2 victory over Colby-Sawyer in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play.
The game-winning goal started with a failed clear out of the box by Colby-Sawyer, which found the foot of sophomore Adrian Pena (Simi Valley, Calif.). Pena lined up a shot from 25 yards out that worked its way through a maze of bodies, eventually hitting the left post with the attempt. The rebound found a wide-open Oshagan, who made no mistake in scoring his first-ever game-winner, giving Emmanuel a 3-2 lead in the 76th minute.
The Saints led 2-1 midway through the second half thanks to goals by sophomore Renato Martinez (Sao Paulo, Brazil) in the 37th minute and junior RJ Darrell (Wethersfield, Conn.) in the 67th minute.
Another failed Chargers clear on Martinez's goal set the ball up perfectly from 18 yards out as the second-year forward rocketed a shot into the upper-left corner of the goal. Darrell gave the Saints their first lead with a brilliant display of footwork, taking control of a pass at the penalty spot with his right foot, before quickly firing a left-footed shot on frame for his first tally of the year.
The Chargers tied things at 2-2 in the 71st minute with a corner kick swung in by junior Ryan Wilson (Mattapoisett, Mass.). The in-swinger flicked off the head of first-year Judson DiMaria (Acton, Mass.), off the crossbar, and down into the net, tying the match with under 20 minutes to go.
The opening tally came from Colby-Sawyer sophomore Evan Thomas (Sudbury, Vt.), who blocked a clearance attempt from Saints goalie Maddox Pierce (Meriden, Conn.). Thomas gathered the blocked clearance, finding an empty net for his first goal of the year.
Pierce finished the night with two saves, improving to 2-7-1 with the victory. Chargers sophomore Yener Bartolon (West Palm Beach, Fla.) made five saves in the loss.
The Saints (2-7-1, 2-6-1 GNAC) return to play on Saturday, Oct. 7 with a trip to Albertus Magnus and a 4:00 p.m. match. The Chargers are back on Oct. 7, traveling to Johnson & Wales for a noon kickoff.
