BOSTON - The Lasell University Lasers traveled to Roberto Clemente Field on Saturday to take down the Emmanuel College Saints 1-0. The Lasers jumped out to an early 1-0 lead inside the first ten minutes and hung on until the final whistle to improve to 2-1-0 while the Saints fell to 0-2-1.
Daniel Faynstein (Needham, Mass.) came roaring down the right side in the seventh minute of play, knocking a hard and low cross in front of goal that found the foot of Ryan Klopchin (Butler, N.J.) to put the Lasers ahead. It was Klopchin's third goal of the season. The lone goal was all it took as Maddox Pierce (Meriden, Conn.) would save the next five shots on goal and hold Lasell at one.
Outside of the Lasell goal, Emmanuel was on the front foot throughout the 90 minutes. The Saints fired 18 shots, with 11 on goal, including three on net for both Joe Anderson (Tampa, Fla.) and Seiki Thasith Jamnongnorawut (Bangkok, Thailand). The Saints were unable to find the back of the net as Lasell goalkeeper Antonio Centracchio (Springfield, Mass.) racked up 11 saves.
Emmanuel continued to push for an equalizer into the final moments. Inside two minutes remaining in the match, the Saints had won a corner kick. Luke Hines (Bristol, Conn.) found the head of Pedro Andres-Vazquez (Frisco, Texas), who sent the ball over the bar as the Saints ran out of time.
Emmanuel returns to Roberto Clemente Field in search of their first win of the season on Wednesday night at 7 P.M. against GNAC foe New England College. Lasell returns home to matchup with Rivier on Wednesday at 4 P.M.
