DIMANDO POWERS MEN'S LACROSSE PAST U. MAINE-FARMINGTON, 15-3
March 19, 2012
BOSTON, Mass. - Junior middie Ted Dimando (Hampstead, N.H.) recorded a program-record six goals to lead the Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team past University of Maine - Farmington, 15-3, Monday evening at Clemente Field in Boston, Mass. The win was the second in a row for the Saints who improve to 2-2 on the year while the loss drops the Beavers to 0-2 in the early goings of the 2012 campaign.
Dimando got things started for Emmanuel just 2:11 into the contest to give EC the 1-0 lead, finishing a feed from Jake Pickett (Stratham, N.H.). Pickett would hook up again with Dimando at the 6:51 mark of the first quarter to help the Saints go ahead, 2-0. Just 46 second later, Emmanuel would increase its lead to 3-0 when freshman attacker Dan O'Brien (East Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net with the help of a Brian O'Regan (Milton, Mass.) assist. EC would continue to build the lead when freshman attacker Josh Condry (Upton, Mass.) buried a shot in front of the crease after being fed by freshman defender Andrew Lawson (Suffern, N.Y.) to make it 4-0. The Beavers would get in the scoring column with 2:11 remaining in the first when sophomore attackman Jake Linkletter (Athens, Maine) potted his first goal of the season with the help of a Mike Foley assist (Byfield, Mass.) to make it 4-1 but the Saints would respond, closing the quarter with a goal with just 16 tics left as freshman attackman Evan Dolber (Malden, Mass.) connected for his fifth goal of the season to make it 5-1 with the helper from freshman middie Jake Jaskolski (St. Clair Shores, Mich.).
The second quarter was a scoreless stalemate until Emmanuel found the back of the net with only two seconds remaining in the half to give the hosts a 6-1 advantage heading into the intermission. Pickett was able to elude the Beavers defense and notch his second goal of the year with 0:02 left on the clock to give EC a five-goal cushion at the half.
The Saints opened the second half the same way as the first, with a Dimando goal at the 12:55 mark to push the lead to 7-1 but Maine-Farmington would answer with their second goal of the evening with 6:44 to play in the quarter to make it 7-2. Junior attacker Matt Roy (Kent Hills, Maine) was able to convert a man-up opportunity with the assist from his brother Jon-Michael Roy (Kent Hills, Maine) to pull the visitors back to within five goals but it would be the closest they'd come in the game as the Saints would roll off the next seven goals to take control of the action for good. The run began with a Dimando tally at the 4:49 mark of the third quarter as he was able to convert on pass from Jaskolski to make it 8-2. Condry made it 9-2 just 1:12 later with his second tally of the match, burying a feed from Lawson. Emmanuel would strike again with just two seconds left in the quarter for the second straight period, this time with senior middie Eddie Thy (Portland, Maine) doing the dirty work to make it 10-2.
Like the first and third quarters, it was Dimando who opened the scoring in the fourth for the Saints, finishing a man-up feed from Thy just 32 seconds into the final period to increase the EC lead to 11-2. Freshman midfielder Joel Berger (Cape Neddick, Maine) got into the scoring mix with 10:36 left in the contest to make it 12-2, converting a feed from Jaskolski for his third assist of the night. Dimando's sixth and final marker in the win gave EC a 13-2 cushion at the 10:07 mark coming off an assist from senior middie Jeff McMahon (Madison, Conn.). Thy would cap the Saints 7-0 run with his second goal of the match at the 9:38 marker to push EC ahead 14-2, finding the back of the net with the help of an assist from freshman Jack Ruggiero (Manhasset, N.Y.). Sophomore attackman Tennessee Peters (Scarborough, Maine) would break the Beavers scoreless drought with 8:47 left in the action to make it 14-3 with an unassisted tally for his second goal of the year before Condry would account for the 15-3 final with his third goal of the match with 7:59 remaining.
Defensively, the Saints were paced by freshman defender Jeremiah Treanor's (Chester, N.H.) game-high 10 groundball outing while Pickett chipped in with seven GB's to go along with 10 faceoff wins. Freshman goalkeeper Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) posted one save in net to improve to 2-2 on the year while freshman Justin Byers (Indianapolis, Ind.) relieved him for the final 15 minutes of action, making one save between the pipes for the Saints.
For the Beavers, sophomore goalie Hunter Rowell (West Paris, Maine) made seven stops in net while also recording a team-high six ground balls. Senior keeper Aaron Burr (Brooklyn, Conn.) played the final eight minutes of action in net, holding the Saints scoreless.
Emmanuel will return to action on Wednesday night when they entertain Regis College in a non-conference matchup scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start while U. Maine-Farmington will head to Saint Joseph's (ME) on Thursday for a 7:00 p.m. tilt.
