NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Emmanuel College fell to Norwich University, 19-10, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) men's lacrosse action at Sabine Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Saint struck first with a Matt Katon (East Falmouth, Mass.) unassisted tally a minute and a half into the action. From there, Norwich's offense took over with a 7-2 run to end the quarter and carried a 7-3 lead into the first break. The second quarter went almost exactly the same, as Emmanuel struck first followed by a 6-1 Norwich run to take a 13-5 lead into halftime. It was all formalities from that point on, as Norwich completely took their foot off the gas offensively in the second half and cruised to the 19-10 victory.
Just over five minutes into the second quarter senior Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) made history with his third goal of the day, becoming just the fifth athlete in Norwich lacrosse history to eclipse the 100-goal mark in his career. He joins Scott McCarthy '97, Josh Jenkins '18, Nick Bishop '03, and Ian Mendoza '14 in the exclusive club, and his 142 career points now rank him seventh in program history.
Senior Joseph Santangelo (Fallston, Md.) put on a show of his own, tying former teammate Jack Dwyer '18 for the program single-game faceoff wins record. Santangelo went 25-27 on the day, matching Dwyer's program record set just last season. He also added in a pair of goals and 13 ground balls, the second highest single-game total in program history.
Other standouts for the Cadets included Aidan Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) with four goals and an assist, Kevin Horchak (Mullica Hill, N.J.) with three goals and two assists, and John Jennings (Riva, Maryland) with a goal and three assists.
All three of the Cadets' goaltenders saw time in net, combining for three saves on 13 shots as Nick Kandra (Crofton, Md.) picks up the victory to improve to 4-2.
The victory also served as head coach Neal Anderson's 100th career victory at Norwich. Already the winningest coach in the program's history, he's the first coach in Norwich lacrosse history to hit a triple-digit career win total.
For Emmanuel, freshman Colin Dickinson (Barre, Vt.) led the way with five points on three goals and two assists. Katon finished the game with three goals while sophomore Charles Stutzenberger (Plymouth, Mass.) added two goals. Sophomore goalie Aric Graves (Manchester, Conn.) made 14 saves in the defeat.
Norwich improves to 9-4 overall this year and 6-1 within the conference. Next up is a trip to Saint Joseph's of Maine on Tuesday night for a pivotal conference matchup at 6:00 PM, as the Monks and Cadets battle for the second overall seed in the conference in their final game of the regular season. Emmanuel (3-12, 3-5) closes out the regular season on Thursday, April 25 when they host Castleton State University in non-conference action at Roberto Clemente Field.
