BOSTON, Mass. - Emmanuel College seniors Michael Sousa (Cranston, R.I.) and Charlie Moran (Maitland, Fla.) have been named to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Men's Lacrosse All-Conference Team, it was announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon. Sophomore Jack Boyle (Milford, Mass.) was the Emmanuel representative on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Sousa earned First Team All-GNAC honors following an impressive senior campaign in which he set several programs records along the way. Sousa set the new single-season program standard for groundballs (159), faceoffs won (216) and faceoff winning percentage (.641), leading the GNAC in all three categories while currently ranking fourth overall in the nation among NCAA D-III players in total groundballs, sixth in groundballs per game (9.73) and 34th in the country in faceoff winning percentage. In GNAC play the captain was an animal in the restart circle with an uncanny .742 faceoff winning percentage in-conference including a program record 22-for-23 performance against Lasell College on April 25. Sousa added three points on two goals and one assist.
This marks the second time Sousa has appeared on the GNAC All-Conference squad, earning First Team honors in 2017. The Rhode Island native caps his Emmanuel career as the program's all-time leader in groundballs (410), faceoffs won (616) and faceoff winning percentage (.586).
Moran earns All-GNAC honors for the second straight season, earning Second Team honors during his final campaign. After having his junior season cut short due to injury, the senior bounced back with a strong campaign leading the team in points with 36 on 24 goals and 12 assists. He ranked second on the squad in both goals and assists and scored a goal in all but two games during the regular season, including 10 straight games to close out regular season GNAC play. Moran led the squad in man-up goals with six and added 17 groundballs and six caused turnovers on the year.
Over his career, Moran appeared in 67 games and registered 122 points on 81 goals and 41 assists to rank fourth all-time in points, fourth all-time in goals and tied for fourth all-time in assists. The Maitland, Fla. native tallied 15 man-up goals over his career which ranks third all-time.
Both players were a member of the 2015 and 2016 GNAC Championship squads.
The Saints capped the 2018 season with an overall record of 3-11 and 3-6 in GNAC play to earn the No. 7 seed in the GNAC tournament field. Emmanuel fell to No. 2 Lasell College in the GNAC Quarterfinals, 15-5, and will graduate five members from the 2018 roster.
