NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Down by a 3-2 margin at halftime, the Norwich University men's lacrosse team rattled off eight of the game's final nine goals to capture a 10-4 victory over visiting Emmanuel (Mass.) College on Sunday at Sabine Field.
The Cadets (4-5, 1-0 GNAC) snapped Emmanuel's 33-game winning streak versus Great Northeast Athletic Conference opponents that dates back to Norwich's 13-8 victory over the Saints in the 2013 GNAC Semifinals. Emmanuel has won the last three league championships.
Junior Josh Jenkins (Centennial, Colo.) set a career-high mark with seven goals for the Cadets. Sophomore Aidan Moulton (Danvers, Mass.) scored twice while sophomore Cody Moore (Canton, N.Y.) rounded out the goal scoring for Norwich, who saw five different players record at least one assist in the tilt.
Trailing by a goal at halftime, Moore sparked a stretch of five-straight Cadets goals by tallying only 20 seconds into the second half. From there, Jenkins rattled off four-straight goals with assists going to junior Matt Shea (Arlington, Mass.), junior Ian Kennedy (Gloucester, Mass.) and junior Michael Cashman (East Kingston, N.H.) on the first, third and fourth of that stretch, respectively.
Donnie Litzelman, who scored three of his team's four goals, broke the Cadets scoring streak with a goal at 2:45 of the third quarter, but Jenkins man-up tally with 9:20 left in regulation time recreated an 8-4 margin. Moulton and Jenkins would round out the scoring for Norwich, creating the 10-4 final score.
Junior Tyler LoPorto (Weston, Fla.) improves to 3-1 for Norwich as he made 10 saves on 14 shots. Sophomore Ian Kriger (Burlington, Mass.) also helped the cause for Norwich, relieving LoPorto for 25 seconds in the tilt. Emmanuel's Austin Rosenberg yielded 10 goals on 21 shots on net, drawing the loss.
Senior James Connors (Marshfield, Mass.) caused three turnovers on defense for Norwich while Kennedy and junior Jack Dwyer (Shelburne, Vt.) tied for the team lead with five groundballs.
Emmanuel returns to action Tuesday, Apr. 4, hosting St. Joseph's (Me.) at 7 p.m.
