SAINTS MOURN THE LOSS OF MEN’S LACROSSE ALUM MATT DILLON ‘16
BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College athletic department and community mourns the loss of Matthew Dillon ('16) following his sudden passing on August 27, 2016. Dillon, a recent graduate and Men's Lacrosse alum, died in a tragic accident this past Saturday at the age of 21.
A political science major from Bedford, N.H., Dillon was known by members of the College community as a remarkable young man with a radiant smile and great attitude about life.
A four-year member of the Men's Lacrosse program, Dillon played in 44 career matches with two starts to his name. He was a part of the senior class that won three consecutive Great Northeast Athletic Conference championships, earning three trips to the Division III NCAA tournament field.
"Matt was the best teammate and a tremendous friend," said Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Brendan McWilliams. "My thoughts are with his family and everyone that had the opportunity to be a part of his life. Matty will be deeply missed by all of us. He was one of a kind."
Along with Lacrosse, Dillon was also a member of the Model United Nations Club and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
"This is such a devastating and tragic loss for our Saints lacrosse family, the Emmanuel Athletic Department and our College community as a whole," said Alexis Mastronardi, Director of Athletics & Recreation. "Our thoughts and prayers are with Matt's family, friends, coaches and teammates."
Visitation hours will be held on Friday, September 2 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Phaneuf Funeral Home. Words of Remembrance will be on the same day from 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM also at the Phaneuf Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 3 from 10:00am to 11:00am at the St. Elizabeth Seton Church. Interment will be held later that day at 1:00pm at the St. Paul Cemetery.
