BAGLIVI NAMED D-III NEW ENGLAND ECAC ALL-STAR
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners.
DANBURY, Conn. - The Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) has announced its 2016 Division III New England Men's Lacrosse All-ECAC Selections and major award winners. Emmanuel College junior defender Chris Baglivi (Mattatuck, N.Y.) was named to the Second Team and was the only player on the squad from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).
Baglivi put together a stellar campaign playing in and starting all 20 contests for the Saints defensive unit. The long pole led the GNAC in caused turnovers with 51 while posting 50 groundballs. The GNAC All-Conference First Team selection helped Emmanuel post a league-low 6.20 goals against average in conference play en route to the program's third consecutive GNAC Championship.
John Uppgren was voted as the ECAC Offensive Player of the Year after a solid senior campaign for Tufts University, while Bowdoin College freshman Clayton Wright earned the honor for rookie of the year. Western New England University collected the remaining awards, as junior Steven Patrie secured ECAC Defensive Player of the Year and John Klepacki garnered the award for coach of the year.
Offensive Player of the Year
John Uppgren - Tufts University, Sr., Attack
Uppgren was an offensive force for the Jumbos in 2016, posting 84 points (47 goals, 37 assists) in 15 regular-season games. The senior notched multiple points in 14 of those outings to help the Jumbos capture the NESCAC regular-season title and subsequently, the conference championship. Uppgren's ECAC Offensive Player of the Year accolade continues a busy awards season for the senior; he was recently named the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Division III Most Outstanding Attackman, in addition to earning a USILA Division III First Team All-American selection. Uppgren also shared the 2016 USILA/NIKE Iroquois National Award for Most Outstanding Player in DIII.
Defensive Player of the Year
Steven Patrie - Western New England University, Jr., Defense
Patrie was part of the Western New England defense that finished with a 7.88 goals against average in conference play during the 2016 regular season. The junior was responsible for collecting 23 ground balls and causing 15 turnovers, with his 15 caused turnovers leading the team. Patrie received an honorable mention in the 2016 USILA DIII All-American voting.
Rookie of the Year
Clayton Wright - Bowdoin College, Fr., Attack
Wright played a key role on offense for the Polar Bears in his first year. The attackman posted 45 points on 19 goals and 26 assists in 15 regular-season tilts, most among NESCAC freshmen.
Coach of the Year
John Klepacki - Western New England University
Klepacki led the Golden Bears to a 13-3 regular-season mark, including a perfect 8-0 mark in conference play as WNEY clinched the top seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference Tournament. His team, which finished the regular season ranked No. 14 nationally in the USILA Coaches Poll, led the conference in scoring with 222 goals (13.88 goals/game). The Golden Bears were also 3-1 against other nationally-ranked teams this year. In addition to Klepacki's team success, he also reached a personal milestone this year, recording the 200th win of his career in a game against Curry on April 20.
