BOSTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College men's lacrosse team cruised to a 13-4 victory over Rivier University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Wednesday evening at Roberto Clemente Field. The Saints improve to 8-4 overall and 5-0 in GNAC play and have now won six games in a row while the loss drops the Raiders to 10-3 and 2-3, ending their five-game win streak.
EC jumped out to an early lead, scoring the game's first four goals, and never looked back. Junior middie Chris Curtis (Ashland, Mass.) buried a pair of unassisted markers during the first five minutes of play to put the Saints on top 2-0 before sophomore Donnie Litzelman (Stratham, N.H.) and junior Michael Rogers (New Haven, Conn.) added goals to give the hosts a 4-0 lead with 2:05 left to play in the first quarter.
The Raiders got on the board with junior Kyle Graham's (Londonderry, N.H.) first goal of the night just 20 seconds after Roger's goal to cut the deficit to 4-1 but Rogers responded with his second goal of the quarter to make it 5-1 with 49 seconds left to play in the stanza.
Graham made it a 5-2 game with his team-leading 28th goal of the year in the second quarter, finishing a feed from junior Kevin Dembkoski (Salem, N.H.) but the Saints would not allow the Raiders to get any closer as junior Michael Donovan (Assonet, Mass.) registered his sixth goal of the year with a strong finish, making it 6-2 with 9:13 to play in the opening half. After over nine minutes of scoreless action, it looked like the Saints would take the four goal lead into halftime but senior attack Jake Jaskolski (St. Clair Shores, Mich.) had other plans as the captain beat Raiders sophomore goalie Clark Plummer (Londonderry, N.H.) with just three seconds left in the half with an upper corner strike to give the Saints a 7-2 cushion heading into the break.
Emmanuel opened the game up with the first three goals of the second half as Jaskolski make it 8-2 before Litzelman scored his second and third goals of the evening to make it 10-2 midway through the third quarter. Rivier junior Cody Lynch (Salem, N.H.) got one back for the Raiders, cutting the lead to 10-3 but Donovan would make it 11-3 with his second goal of the game late in the third.
Rogers and Donovan added goals in the fourth before Dembkoski rounded out the scoring with a man-up goal with 3:14 left in regulation to account for the 13-4 final.
Plummer finished with 11 saves for Rivier while Emmanuel senior goalie Austin Lauzier (Bedford, N.H.) recorded the win with seven saves before giving way to senior Justin Byers (Indianapolis, Ind.) who made one save for the Saints.
Emmanuel returns to action on Saturday, April 11 when they head to New Haven, Conn. for a 1:00 PM GNAC tilt against Albertus Magnus College. The Raiders play the same day, travelling to Norwich University for a 4:00 PM GNAC contest.
