Emmanuel College Sophomore Austin Lauzier was honored by the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon, as he was named the GNAC Men's Lacrosse Goalie of the Week. Lauzier's recognition comes on the heels of the Saints' 9-8 win over Becker College on Saturday afternoon.
In his two games last week, Lauzier posted an 8.00 goals-against-average to lift the Saints to a 1-1 week. The sophomore allowed just eight goals to the two-time defending champion Mount Ida Mustangs, the second lowest total a GNAC opponent has allowed to them all year. Lauzier also posted 13 saves against the Mustangs and then followed it up with an 11 save outing in the thrilling 9-8 victory over Becker in GNAC action. On the week, Lauzier posted an impressive .600 save percentage and also collected six groundballs.
Lauzier, a native of Bedford, New Hampshire, has been Emmanuel's starting goalie for the past two seasons. Lauzier has played and started in every single game since the Emmanuel program's inception in 2012, giving the sophomore a total of 29 starts over the past two years.
This is Lauzier's second GNAC Goalie of the Week honor, as he was also recognized by the conference once as a rookie. Lauzier and the Saints will be back in action tonight, as they host the Lasers of Lasell College in a 7:00 PM start under the lights on Clemente Field.
