MEN'S GOLF FINISHES THIRD IN OPENING MATCH OF 2011 SEASON

Brookline, Mass. - The Emmanuel College men's golf team finished third in its opening match of the 2011 golf season, combining to score 350 Thursday afternoon at Putterham Meadows Golf Course in Brookline, Mass. Newbury College came away with a first place finish, shooting a combined 337 while Daniel Webster College finished second with a score of 341. Michael Scibelli of Newbury College fired away the low round of the match, shooting an 83 (42/41) on the par 71 course that totals 6,317 yards in distance.
The Saints were led by junior co-captain Rob Cavaliere (Stonington, Conn.) who shot a team-low 86 (43/43) and finished tied for ninth overall in the field. Sophomore Ben Taylor (Newbury, Mass.) and freshman Michael Burgess (Milton, Mass.) were both just a stroke behind him with rounds of 87 while senior Michael DelSignore (Narragansett, R.I.) recorded a 90, recording eight pars along the way to round out the Saints top four. Sophomore Melanie Dean (Pittsfield, Mass.) was not far behind with a 93, a new career-low in match-play.
The Saints will be back in action on Tuesday, September 20 when they host Suffolk University and Newbury College at their home course, the William J. Devine Golf Course in Dorchester, Mass. The tri-match is scheduled to kick off at 12:00 p.m.
