STRONG SECOND ROUND BOOSTS MEN'S GOLF AT ELMS INVITATIONAL

EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. - Emmanuel senior Matteo Pocobene (Malden, Mass.) shot a team-low score of 158 (81-77), leading the Saints to a 14th place finish at the 2015 Elms College Fall Initational at Elmcrest Country Club in East Longmeadow, Mass. Occidental College won the event, posting a 595 in which all five golfers shot two sub-80 rounds each. 

Occidental's top two players tied for the individual title, as Colton Bares (72-74) and Will Mansfield (74-72) each posted a 146, finishing +6 for the tournament. The five Tigers all finished in the top 24 individual finishers at the event.

Salem State's Kevin Dyer finished one stroke back, shooting a +7 147 (74-73). The Vikings placed second as a team as well, tallying a 606, with all five players finishing in the top 40. Chad Alibozek and Tom MacPherson both shot two sub-80 rounds, Alibozek carding a 150 (7th overall) and MacPherson finished tied for 18th with a 155. Cam Moniz also shot a 155, improving on a first round 82 with a final round 73.

As for the rest of the Saints, sophomore Colin Cordero (Bolton, Conn.) posted a 167 (85-82) to finish tied for 59th. Freshman Dave Byrne (Newport, R.I.) improved six shots in the final round to card a 174 (90-84). Senior Curtis Fraser (Hopkinton, N.H.) was three strokes behind Byrne, finishing with a 177 (87-90). Rounding out the Saints finishers was senior Michael Rague (Old Orchard Beach, Maine), who fought through a tough first round to shoot seven shots better in the final round, finishing with a 203 (105-98).

Emmanuel will be back in action on Wednesday when they travel to Westfield, Mass. to compete in the Westfield State Invitational played at Tekoa Country Club.
