POCOBENE MEDALS IN MEN'S GOLF SEASON-OPENER
BROOKLINE, Mass. – The Emmanuel College golf team opened up the 2013 campaign firing off a 337 team score Thursday afternoon at Putterham Golf Course in tri-match action with Newbury College and Mitchell College. The Saints finished second behind the Nighthawks team score of 325 while Mitchell rounded out the group with a 392.

The Saints finished second behind the Nighthawks team score of 325 while Mitchell rounded out the group with a 392.
The Saints were led by sophomore Matteo Pocobene (Malden, Mass.) who earned medalist honors for the match with the low round of 78. Pocobene recorded a 40 on the front nine before carding a 38 on the backside. The 78 on his card was just one stroke shy of tying his career low.
Newbury was paced by senior Ray Lilley (Wallingford, Conn.) who fired away an 80. His junior teammates Daniel Lumb (Stoneham, Mass.) and Kevin Fitzpatrick (Milford, Conn.) were right behind him with 81's, respectively.
EC sophomore Mikey Rague (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) was the next Saint in the clubhouse with an 84 on his card. Rague played bogey golf on the front side of the course with a 45 before finishing strong with a 39 on the back. Junior co-captain Michael Burgess (Milton, Mass.) was just one stroke behind Rague with an 85, also hitting a 45 on his front nine before improving with a 40 on the back.
Sophomore Cameron Dillon (Braintree, Mass.) rounded out the Saints top four with a 90.
Mariners sophomore Matt Grudgen (East Longmeadow, Mass.) paced Mitchell College with a team-low 92.
The Saints will return to action on Monday, September 16 when they head back to Putterham for a head-to-head match against Newbury at 1:00 PM.
