MEN'S GOLF BREAKS SINGLE-DAY LOW DURING DAY TWO OF USM CLASSIC
The Emmanuel College men’s golf team continued its best season in program history, firing a single day low of 314 during day 2 of the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic. The Saints enjoyed a solid two days, posting a 322 on day one to break the previous single day low of 325 in which they’d shot three times on the year before following it up with the 314 on day two of the tourney.
GORHAM, Maine – The Emmanuel College men's golf team continued its best season in program history, firing a single day low of 314 during day 2 of the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic. The Saints enjoyed a solid two days, posting a 322 on day one to break the previous single day low of 325 in which they'd shot three times on the year before following it up with the 314 on day two of the tourney.
Husson junior Bill Hutchins (Hampden, Maine) earned individual medalist honors with a two-round total of 142 (69-73) to lead the Husson University Eagles to a first place finish at the 2012 USM Fall Classic Monday afternoon held at the par-71, 6059-yard Gorham Country Club in Gorham, Maine.
Hutchins shot a two-under par opening round 69 and followed it with a solid 73 to lead the field of 55 golfers as Husson totaled a score of 586 (293-293). Four teams finished under 600 strokes in the closely contested tournament. Endicott College edged out Southern Maine with a score of 593 (296-297) for second place while the Huskies placed third with a 595 (294-301). UMass Dartmouth was the fourth team under 600 strokes placing fourth with a 599 (301-298) in the 11-team field.
Junior Aaron Bailey (York, Maine) finished in a two-way tie for third place to lead the Huskies. Bailey followed his opening round 74 with a one-over 72 for a two-day total of 146. Senior Josh Hogan (Falmouth, Maine) and junior Aidan Boyce (South Portland, Maine) each tied for fifth place with a 147. Hogan had a 70 in the first round and a 77 in the second round, while Boyce had a 74 in the first day and a 73 in the second day.
For the Saints, freshman Matteo Pocobene (Malden, Mass.) posted a day one 79 and followed in up with a 78. Sophomore Brett Burman (Bridgewater, Conn.) shot the low round of the weekend for Emmanuel with a day two 74 while sophomore Ben Talyor (Newbury, Mass.) was consistent with a pair of 83's. Freshman Cameron Dillon (Braintree, Mass.) enjoyed a 79 on day two while freshman Michael Rague (Old Orchard Beach, Maine) registered a 78 on day one.
After a week off, Emmanuel will return to action at the 2012 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) hosted at the Blackstone National Golf Club in Sutton, Mass., beginning Saturday, October 20.
