BOSTON, Mass. – Emmanuel College senior forward Xavier Everson (Rochester, N.Y.) has been named to the 2012-13 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men's Basketball Second Team, it was announced by the conference office earlier today.
Everson was a force for the Saints all season long, averaging a team-best 18.0 points per game which also ranked third overall in the GNAC. The senior tri-captain finished the year averaging 7.0 rebounds per game to rank first among the Saints and tied for 11th in the GNAC. His 1.4 steals a game was also a team-best while ranking 13th in the conference. An extremely consistent player, Everson netted double figure point totals in 23 of his 25 games this season including a stretch in which he was in double figures for 21 consecutive games spanning from Dec. 6, 2012 through Feb. 16, 2013. The Rochester, N.Y. native put together six double-doubles on the year and registered back-to-back 30 points games against the GNAC regular-season champions, Anna Maria College, on Feb. 12 and against Lasell College on Feb. 14 in a 78-66 win that clinched a playoff berth for the Saints. During the Lasell win, Everson converted 14 free-throws, a new single-game record for the Saints.
A four year player and starter for Emmanuel, Everson appeared in 93 career contests to rank 12th all-time while his 90 starts ranks sixth in program history. Earlier this season, the senior became just the sixth player in program history to join the 1,000 point and 500 rebound club and accomplished both milestones in the same game, a 97-87 victory over Suffolk University on Jan. 5. Everson finishes his career ranked third all-time in scoring with 1,302 career points and third in rebounding with 626 boards. Over his career, the forward notched 13 double-doubles and is ranked second all-time with 81 blocked shots, fourth all-time in assists with 192 helpers, and fourth all-time in steals with 119 thefts. Everson ranks within the top 10 all-time in field goal percentage, free throw percentage and three-point shoot percentage.
The Saints finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 6-20 overall mark including a 6-12 record in GNAC action. Despite the underachieving record, Emmanuel was competitive every single night as seen in 11 of their losses were less than 10 point margins including three one-point defeats. Emmanuel earned the No. 8 seed in the GNAC tournament and faced off against the regular season champions, Anna Maria College. The Saints held a held a lead late in the second half before giving way to the AMCats, 85-76, to conclude the season.
