Emmanuel's Cathryn Lariviere was recently honored by the college's Athletic Department at the annual awards night and desert reception on April 25th. Lariviere received two highly competitive senior athlete awards. The three-sport team captain was named the 2009 Senior Scholar Athlete of the Year and also received the 2009 Senior Athlete Achievement Award.
Over her four-year career, Lariviere has been a twelve-time letter winner, participating in cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track. The senior class president, who will graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education, has also maintained a perfect 4.0 grade point average in the classroom.
During the fall, Lariviere posted a historic season with the Saints Cross Country team. She won 3 of the 7 meets in which she competed, was named the GNAC's Runner of the Week for an unprecedented 6-straight weeks, and received GNAC Runner of the Year honors after winning the GNAC Championship on November 1st. The Windham, N.H. native also set the Emmanuel program record in the 5K after her performance on October 4th in Gordon College's Pop Crowell Invitational.
Over the winter season, Lariviere excelled on the indoor track, smashing program records in four different individual events, including the 800-meters, 1000-meters, 1 mile, and 3000 meters. She also participated on the record-setting 4x800-meter relay and the distance medley relay teams.
This spring, Lariviere ran down three more records during the outdoor season. She set the 5000-meter record on April 18th and the 800-meter and 1500-meter records on April 26th. Lariviere participated in the Division III New England Championships on May 1st, where she ran her personal best in the 10K, finishing 10th overall. The senior captain will run again on May 14th in the ECAC Championships at Springfield College.
