April 22, 2010
BOSTON, Mass. - The Emmanuel College Cross Country and Track & Field Programs represented extremely well at the 114th running of the Boston Marathon on April 19th. There were Emmanuel Saints present throughout the Patriot's Day race, which is the oldest annual marathon in the world. An amazing 26,735 runners entered the race and 23,126 started the race. Of them, 97.5% of the total runners (22,540) actually finished the grueling 26.2 mile course. Among them, was Emmanuel's Assistant Men's and Women's Track & Field Coach Will Feldman.
Feldman, who is now in his second season as one of Emmanuel's assistant track & field coaches, was running his fourth marathon and his second Boston Marathon. He bettered his personal best marathon time by ten minutes, running the hilly Boston course in 2:41:16. Coach Feldman's time placed him in the 234th spot overall, 212th for male runners, and an amazing 189th out of the 11,397 runners in his age division.
Head Coach Tony DaRocha, now in his 9th season as both the Cross Country Coach and Track & Field Coach at Emmanuel, was in the lead truck monitoring the splits for the elite male runners. Assistant Coach Alice Kramer drove the lead women's wheelchair truck. Assistant Coach Steve Keyes worked the starting line in Hopkinton, confirming the bib numbers for the elite male runners.
The Emmanuel track & field student-athletes had the tremendous volunteer experience of working the finish line on Boylston Street. The Saints were involved in the drug testing process for the elite male and female runners, as they finished the race. The Emmanuel students were fortunate enough to work with Olympians and top marathoners world-wide, as they completed one of the most highly regarded races in the world. The Emmanuel student-athletes volunteering on Marathon Monday included: Jordan Coulombe, Wesley Cowles, Doug Gillum, Alex Lucier, Mark Dougherty, Gregory Brown, Brittany Sorice, Julie Young, Joslyn DelSignore, Katherine Fahey, Nacy Brandao, Darlene Charles, Caitlyn Dacosta and Meaghan Reddy.
