May 14, 2009
The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams sent three athletes to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on Thursday night. Senior Cathryn Lariviere (Windham, N.H.) competed in the 10K, freshman Christopher Conway ran the 110-meter hurdles, and sophomore Ben Cleveland (Auburn, Maine) competed in the 100-meters. Lariviere wrapped up her record-setting career by earning All-ECAC honors and setting another Emmanuel program record.
Lariviere ran her 10K event in 39:30.12, finishing 8th overall. Her 8th place finish earned her All-ECAC honors, which is unprecedented for an Emmanuel track & field athlete in this event. She is also the first Emmanuel female to earn All-ECAC honors. Lariviere's time on Thursday set a new Emmanuel program record in the 10K.
Four heats of athletes competed in the trials of the 110-meter hurdles. Conway, a rookie, finished the race in 15.61, placing 7th out of the 32 athletes competing. His top-eight finish advanced him to the finals of this event on Friday afternoon. Conway went on to finish 5th in the finals and earned All-ECAC honors. His time of 15.18 set another Emmanuel program record. Conway is the first Emmanuel male student-athlete to receive this honor in an outdoor event.
Cleveland struggled at the ECACs, as he battled a flu. He had qualified for the championships in both the 100 and 400 meters. He was unable to compete in the 400-meters on Friday, but hung in there on Thursday and ran an 11.83 100-meter race.
Overall, the Emmanuel men's team placed 44th and the women placed 55th. 93 schools participated in this year's championships. For complete results go to: http://www.nesportstiming.com/results/ecac09.htm
