TRACK TEAMS FINISH REGULAR SEASON WITH STRONG SHOWING AT BROWN

East Providence, RI - There were a number of stellar performances on Sunday at the Brown University Invitational, where the Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams concluded their regular season. Many of the Emmanuel student-athletes held their own against predominately NCAA Division I and II competitors. Several Saints made out well by improving their personal records and setting new program records. A couple of athletes also qualified for New England Division III Championship.
Senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) ran the 3000 meter steeplechase, breaking the school record and qualifying for the New England Division III Championship, with a time of 12:29.23. Junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) placed 6th in the 5,000 meters and ran her personal best with a time of 19:28.98. Sophomore Megan Reichel (Mashpee, MA) achieved her personal best in the high jump, and sophomore Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) ran her personal best in the 100 meter dash. The women's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of freshmen Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Milford, MA), Megan Clary (Cumberland, RI), McCaffrey and freshman Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI), placed 4th overall.
On the men's side, senior captain Rob Allen (Plymouth, MA) placed 6th in the 400 meter run, breaking his own program record and qualifying for New England Division III Championship with a time of 51.06. Allen also place 3rd in the 200 meter run. Freshman Alex Lucier (Northbridge, MA) jumped his personal best in the long jump, leaping 20' 0.25", while sophomore Doug Gillum (West Boylston, MA) threw his personal best in the javelin. Freshman Ryan Maher (Gales Ferry, CT) placed 6th in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 16.18 and also ran his personal best in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 61.16. The men's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of senior Mike Thurnauer (Reading, MA), freshman John Hieber (Peabody, MA), senior Matt Hickey (Attleboro, MA) and Allen placed 6th overall.
The Saints who qualified for the New England Championship will compete on Friday, May 2nd, at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT. For complete results of the Brown Invitational, go to:
