PROGRAM RECORDS FALL AS SAINTS COMPETE AT SILFEN INVITATIONAL

New London, CT - The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed at Connecticut College's Silfen Invitational Meet on Saturday afternoon. The Saints had several personal bests as well as posting some record-breaking performances.
Junior Christine Gaspar (Attleboro, MA) led the Saints, placing 1st in the women's 10K with a time of 43:11.55. Freshman Erin Daley (North Easton, MA) threw her personal best in the discus (61'3"). Junior Cat Lariviere (Windham, NH) placed 6th in the 1500 meters, while senior Emily McCaffrey (East Greenwich, RI) and freshman Maureen Kellett (Westborough, MA) achieved their personal bests in the same 1500 meter race. Sophomores Sarah Soldano (Bethel, CT) and Megan Reichel (Mashpee, MA) placed second and fourth, respectively, in the high jump. Reichel also ran her personal best in the 100 and 200 meter runs.
Freshman Alison Lynch (Pawtucket, RI) ran her personal best in the 400 meter run while freshman Katherine Fahey (Attleboro, MA) ran her personal best in the 800 meters. The women's 4x100 meter relay team consisting of freshman Ashley Adamson (Scituate, MA), sophomore Katie Beaton (Groveland, MA), Lynch, and freshman Kelsey Fitzpatrick (Milford, MA), placed 6th, breaking the school record with a time of 54.49. The women's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of Fitzpatrick, McCaffrey, Lariviere and Lynch, placed fifth and set a new school record with a time of 4:35.51.
Senior Michael Thurnauer (Reading, MA) led the men's team with his record-breaking performances. He set new program records in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.09, as well as in the javelin, throwing 144' 9". Freshman Thomas Ryan Maher (Gales Ferry, CT) also ran the 400 meter hurdles for the first time this season, running 61.69. Freshman John Hieber (Peabody, MA) and sophomore Pat Welton (Derby, CT) ran their personal bests in the 400 meter run. Senior Robert Allen (Plymouth, MA) placed 4th in the 200 meter race with a time of 23.08. The men's 4x400 meter relay team, consisting of Thurnauer, sophomore Robert Littleton (Plymouth, MA), Maher and Allen, placed 6th overall.
The Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams will compete again this coming Sunday (4/27) at the Brown University Invitational in Providence, RI. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11am.
