TRACK TEAMS BEAT THE HEAT AT FITCHBURG STATE

FITCHBURG, Mass. - The Men's and Women's Outdoor Track & Field Team competed at Fitchburg State College's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon. The Saints braved the heat for the eight-plus hour day to achieve numerous notable performances.
Emmanuel sophomore Katasi Kulubya (Anaheim, CA) improved her own school record in the 400 meters, clocking 61.21 and finishing fourth. Junior Ben Cleveland (Auburn, ME) finished fifth in the 400 meters in 50.53, while junior Andrew Heath (Stanford, CT) ran a personal best time of 50.96 in the same race and qualified for the New England Division III Championships.
Sophomore Patrick Froass (Oneida, NY) ran personal bests in both the 100 meters and 200 meters, running 12.03 and 25.60, respectively. Freshmen Julie Young (Derry, NH) and Caitlyn Dacosta (North Reading, MA) established personal records in the 200 meters with respective times of 29.90 and 30.55. Sophomore Stephen Armstrong (Revere, MA) ran his best in the 800 meters while sophomore Maurizio Turco (Revere, MA) and Alen Smajic (Revere, MA) endured the heat in the 5000 meters for personal best performances.
On the field, junior Irene Limlengco (Brookline, MA) finished second in the high jump with a personal best of 4'11" and qualified for the New England Division III Championships. Freshman Ariana Nelson (Coto de Caza, CA) finished third, also clearing 4'11". Senior Doug Gillum (West Boylston, MA) improved on his school record in the hammer with a throw of 85'8".
Sophomore Kathleen King (South Easton, MA) threw her farthest in the discus, recording 100'6". Sophomore Gregory Brown (Norton, MA) threw a personal best of 99'1" in the discus, while Kulubya and junior Katherine Fahey (Attleboro, MA) achieved their best throws in the javelin.
