Senior Spotlight Series - Amie Knowles - Women's Track & Field
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Senior Spotlight Series (SSS)
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Participation in this series was optional and we're grateful to have heard from so many wonderful representatives from our senior class. While their careers at Emmanuel may be coming to a close, their lives as Saints are just beginning.
Let's meet today's featured student-athlete!

SSS Q&A
1) What was your favorite memory related to your track & field experience?
It is so hard to choose one memory, but I would say that our spring break trip to South Carolina this year was definitely one of my favorites. With it being my last meet and everything happening with Covid-19, I felt so much love from all of my teammates and coaches. It was indescribable and I feel that we are all a lot closer just by sharing a memory like that. At the meet, I got to meet a lot of other senior athletes across the country who were experiencing the same thing as me which allowed me to feel like I wasn't alone. I threw my best I ever had at that meet in my whole college career. All in all, it was a time of bonding and a memory that was emotional, but heartwarming. It was a week filled with a lot of laughs and a lot of tears.
2) Favorite pre-game playlist song?
My favorite pre-game playlist song is definitely "We Ready" by Archie Eversole
3) Proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel?
I would say that my proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel as a team was winning the first ever Women's Indoor Track and Field DIII GNAC Conference Championship. I remember how much pride I felt for my team as everyone was competing and cheering each other on. Then we sat down together and heard the results of the meet. Emmanuel was called the champion and it was such a surreal experience. As an individual, I would say that my last meet where I threw my best in the shot put ever was my proudest achievement. I remember throwing well over 9 meters for every throw, which was unheard of up until that point in my college career. I like to think that it was me giving it my all during my last few throws in the circle, considering that I didn't know what the future held.
4) What game/opponent did you always look forward to every season?
I always look forward to going to Conn College because it's a two day meet for some of us and it's at a point in the season where the weather isn't so bad. The first couple of meets of the season are VERY cold, but as time goes on the weather gets warmer. Also, there are a lot of teams who attend so it makes the time competing interesting. Some of the most vivid memories that I have of track have been at Conn College.
5) Other than your own sport/team, what was your favorite EC athletic program to support and why?
This year, I really enjoyed going to the basketball games with my team. We loved going and it was a way for us to show our support while also bonding a little more as a team. The basketball games always took place after our practices so it worked out perfectly.
6) One thing you'll miss the most about being on the track & field team at EC?
I am definitely going to miss my coaches and teammates who have been so much of a support to me. We all became a family and some of my closest friends were made from competing on the track team at EC. I am going to miss throwing in the circle. I am also going to miss practicing with my team at Clemente as the sun sets and lights up the Prudential Center which overlooked us on the track.
7) Tell us something most people probably don't know about you that relates to your sport.
What people may not know about my sport is that only a select few states allow high schools to learn the hammer throw. Most track athletes don't know how to throw the hammer until they begin college. I learned how to throw the hammer my junior year of college! It's still new for me.
8) Give one shout out/thank you to someone who impacted your EC Athletic experience.
I would like to thank Coach Potter for always being there for me and believing in me/ the team. She not only cares about me as one of her athletes, but as a human being. She also never once told me that I was incapable of something. She may have laughed when I was learning how to throw the hammer for the first time, but she never said that I couldn't do it.
9) What are your post-grad plans?
At the end of this February, I was invited to serve in the Peace Corps. I was going to be an English Co-teacher in North Macedonia this September. Currently, my departure is pending depending on what happens with the Pandemic. For now, I am looking at all options just to be safe, but I hope this one works out!
10) Give some advice or words of wisdom to future Saints.
One piece of advice that I have for future saints is to not take anything for granted, because tomorrow it could be gone. Live in the moment and don't hold back! You never know what tomorrow will look like. Also, cherish every moment that you have and remember that when you become part of a team at EC you become part of a family. They will always be there for you, no matter what the circumstances.
Thank you, Amie, for your commiment and dedication to Emmanuel College Athletics and the Women's Track & Field program! Check back in every Tuesday and Thursday for more content from the Senior Spotlight Series!
