Senior Spotlight Series - Jackie Schneider - Women's Track & Field
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Senior Spotlight Series (SSS)
With the sudden end to the 2020 spring seasons due to the CoVID19 epidemic, the Emmanuel College Athletic Department wanted to take a moment to recognize members of the class of 2020 during the final semester of their senior season at Emmanuel College. The Senior Spotlight Series was a chance for our community as Saints to give each of these individuals the notoriety and recognition they all deserve while getting a little behind the scenes glimpse into their lives outside the uniform.
Participation in this series was optional and we're grateful to have heard from so many wonderful representatives from our senior class. While their careers at Emmanuel may be coming to a close, their lives as Saints are just beginning.
Let's meet today's featured student-athlete!
NAME: Jackie Schneider
HOMETOWN: Wymouth, Mass.
MAJOR: Biology
SPORT: Women's Track & Field / Cross Country
SENIOR SUMMARY: Jackie enjoyed a strong career as a three-sport varsity athlete at Emmanuel, competing in cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field. She served as a team captain her senior season and will graduate as the program record-holder in four events including the Pentathlon (indoor), the Heptathlon (outdoor) and both the 100m & 400m hurdles (outdoor). At the 2019 GNAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship, Schneider won the 100m hurdle race as ran a leg on the 4x400m EC relay team that placed first. She also won the 400m hurdle race during the 2018 GNAC/NECC Dual Meeting Championship and was a member of the 2019-20 GNAC Indoor Track & Field Championship team.
SSS Q&A
1) What was your favorite memory related to your track & field experience?
My favorite memory related to track would probably be the outdoor GNAC championship meet my junior year. Although we placed second, we really came together as a team and gave it our all. Our team was the smallest during my time at Emmanuel with only 13 girls, and everyone of us was there for each other while all of us got many personal records.
2) Favorite pre-game playlist song?
I don't have a particular favorite pre-game song, it changes with new music.
3) Proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel?
My proudest athletic accomplishment/achievement at Emmanuel would have to be from my last-ever race of outdoor track, when I finally broke 70 in the 400 hurdles, running 1:09.21.
4) What game/opponent did you always look forward to every season?
The meet I look forward to every outdoor season is at Conn College. It's the first time I get to compete in the hep since the following year, and the only chance I have to qualify for DIII New Englands at. It's an overnight meet and is always so much fun.
5) Other than your own sport/team, what was your favorite EC athletic program to support and why?
I love going to the basketball games, they're honestly the only games I can go to and watch with our practice schedule. But while running around the track at Clemente, I also get to watch lacrosse and softball games, and those are always fun too.
6) One thing you'll miss the most about being on the track & field team at EC?
I'm going to miss my family on campus, my best friends were on that team and I could always count on them to go grab a coffee or dinner, and to help me get through practices laughing.
7) Tell us something most people probably don't know about you that relates to your sport.
Most people know that I run track, maybe that I hurdle and long jump. But what most people probably don't know is that my event is the heptathlon. It consists of seven events over the course of two days: 100 hurdles, high jump, shot put, 200m, long jump, javelin, and 800m.
8) Give one shout out/thank you to someone who impacted your EC Athletic experience.
I'd like to thank Coach Potter, for always believing in us, especially in us seniors who only got to spend two years with her. My track experience at Emmanuel would not have been as incredible as it was if it wasn't for her.
9) What are your post-grad plans?
I'm still working on the post-grad plans, considering that I have eligibility to come back for one more track season, but I might just take my running career and start training for triathlons.
10) Give some advice or words of wisdom to future Saints.
Advice for future Saints is to not take anything for granted. The last track season of my life was taken away from me in a blink of an eye from this pandemic. So for every game, practice and competition- give it your all and do not hold back because you might not know its your last time on the field or court and you do not want to regret not going for it.
Thank you, Jackie, for your commiment and dedication to Emmanuel College Athletics and the Women's Track & Field/Cross Country program! Check back in every Tuesday and Thursday for more content from the Senior Spotlight Series!
