SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Senior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, Mass.) and sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) represented Emmanuel College as the Saints' two qualifiers for the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Track & Field Championships this weekend. The ECACs were hosted by Springfield College at Blake Track & Field on Thursday and Friday afternoon and featured student-athletes from 97 different institutions.
Thomas qualified for the Championships in two individual events, the 110m hurdles and the 400m hurdles. The senior captain raced in his 110mH event on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 PM, finishing in a 19th place time of 15.85. Thomas then raced in the 400mH on Friday afternoon at 2:30 PM. Running in lane four of the first heat, Thomas would finish 20th overall with his 56.53 finish.
Brooks opened Friday's events for the Saints, competing in the women's high jump championship. The Emmanuel College program-record holder entered the championship seeded 16th with her qualifying leap of 1.60m (5'3"), a height she reached on April 26th in the Regis Pride Classic. Unfortunately, the sophomore struggled with the Championship's opening height of 4'11 and was not able to advance.
Thomas and Brooks were accompanied to the ECACs by their coaches: Tony DaRocha, Irene Limlengco, Rob Allen and Chante Soars, as well as well as receiving championship day support from their parents in the stands.
Congratulations to both Ryan and Ashley on a terrific 2015 track & field season!
