13 SAINTS COMPETE IN NEW ENGLAND D3 TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS; BROOKS EARNS ALL-NEW ENGLAND HONORS
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Emmanuel College was well-represented at Division III New England Track & Field Championships this weekend. The Saints sent 13 previously qualified student-athletes to compete in the championships, hosted just across the Charles River by Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday. Three EC student-athletes qualified and completed in individual events and three Emmanuel relay squads competed in their team relay events.

The Saints sent 13 previously qualified student-athletes to compete in the championships, hosted just across the Charles River by Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Friday and Saturday. Three EC student-athletes qualified and completed in individual events and three Emmanuel relay squads competed in their team relay events.
Leading the way for Emmanuel was sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass), who nearly broke her own program-record in the high jump, when she launched herself 5'2.50" to capture 6th place overall. Her top-eight finish in the Championship earned the sophomore sensation All-New England honors. Brooks has qualified and will compete in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC ) Championships on May 14-15.
Also competing as an individual was Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.). Thomas had qualified for the Division III New Englands, as well as the ECACs, in two events, the men's 110mH and the 400mH. The senior captain notched 16th place in the 110mH with his time of 16.61. He was a touch off his mark in his signature event, the 400mH, with his 12th place finish in a time of 56.17.
Rounding out Emmanuel's individual competitors and competing in the outdoor New Englands for the first time was EC rookie Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.). Tavares raced to a 20th place finish in the men's 400m with his time of 50.68.
Tavares and Thomas later teamed up with juniors Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) and Craig Schoaf (Raynham, Mass.) for a 19th place finish in the men's 4x400m relay. They squad crossed the line in a combined time of 3:32.64.
The Saints also sent two women's relay teams to the Championships. Racing in the 4x100m relay was Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.), Micaela Fraccalossi (Plymouth, Mass.), Sara Ciochetti (Watertown, Conn.) and Zoe Pierce-Dickens (Franklin, Vt.). The crew teamed up for 15th place with their time of 52-flat.
Competing in the women's 4x800m relay were three veterans and a rookie in Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.), Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.) and Megan Rockett (Fall River, Mass.). The team snagged 16th place with their combined time of 10:23.41.

Both Brooks and Thomas have qualified individually to compete in the ECAC Championship on May 14-15 at Springfield College. Thomas will kick off the ECAC action on Thursday (5/14) for the Saints with his running in the trials of the men's 110mH. This event is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM. Brooks will jump on Friday morning (5/15) at 11:00 AM. Thomas will also compete on Friday, when he races in his second and signature event, the men's 400mH. This event is slated to begin at 2:30 PM.
