TRACK & FIELD BATTLES WEATHER AT FITCHBURG STATE INVITATIONAL
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams competed in Fitchburg State University’s Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on a very cold and windy Saturday afternoon. With winds at 23 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, the Saints struggled to achieve top performances. However, despite the unseasonably cold weather, several Emmanuel athletes hit their mark.
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Emmanuel Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed in Fitchburg State University's Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on a very cold and windy Saturday afternoon. With winds at 23 mph and gusts up to 40 mph, the Saints struggled to achieve top performances. However, despite the unseasonably cold weather, several Emmanuel athletes hit their mark.
The Saints picked up one win on the day, as senior Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) captured 1st place in the men's 400mH. Thomas' time of 58.09 qualified him for the Division III New England Championships. Thomas also snagged 6th place in the 110mH with his time of 17.97.
Freshman Francisco Tavares (Boston, Mass.) didn't let the poor conditions bother him, as the rookie turned in a pair of personal record performances. Tavares sprinted to a 12.28 PR in the 100m and a 53.92 PR in the 400m.
Sophomore Mellyn Costello (Canton, Mass.) earned her PR in the 100mH, finishing in 6th place with a time of 17.71. Junior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) ran her best outdoor time in the women's 800m, crossing the line in 2:32.69.

Emmanuel will return to the track this Saturday, April 11th, when the Saints head to Connecticut College for the Silfen Invitational, set to begin at 9:00 AM.
