MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams opened their spring season on Saturday at the Wesleyan University Invitational. Due to the lingering snow on the track at Wesleyan, the outdoor meet was forced indoors and hosted in the Cardinals' Bacon Field House. The Saints faced both Division II and III competition and faired quite well in the first meet of the 2015 campaign.
Senior captain Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) turned in the Saints' only win on the day, sprinting to a 1st place finish in his men's 60mH event with a winning time of 8.97. He also snagged 2nd place in the 400m with his 53.73 finish.
Sophomore Ashley Brooks (Danvers, Mass.) captured 2nd place in the women's high jump. Her 5'1.75" jump was a Division III New England Championship qualifier and just ¾ of an inch off the Emmanuel College outdoor program-record in the high jump.
In addition to Thomas and Brooks, four other Saints earned top five finishes on the day. Sophomore Ian Chamenko (Beacon Falls, Conn.) raced to his personal record in the men's 1500m, crossing the line in 4:20.33, to finish 5th overall. Junior Chloe Pangonis (Keene, N.H.) also ran down a personal record in the women's 800m, finishing in 5th place with her time of 2:30.60.
