TRACK TEAMS WRAP REGULAR SEASON AT REGIS PRIDE INVITATIONAL
WESTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams competed in their final meet of the 2013 regular season on Sunday afternoon. The Saints traveled to Weston, Mass. for the Regis College Pride Invitational. Three new Emmanuel school records were set and the Saints posted three new championship qualifying times and four improvements on prior qualifiers. There were also six wins, sixteen top-three finishes and 36 personal records set on the day for Emmanuel athletes.
WESTON, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track and Field Teams competed in their final meet of the 2013 regular season on Sunday afternoon. The Saints traveled to Weston, Mass. for the Regis College Pride Invitational. Three new Emmanuel school records were set and the Saints posted three new championship qualifying times and four improvements on prior qualifiers. There were also six wins, sixteen top-three finishes and 36 personal records set on the day for Emmanuel athletes.
After sweeping the Most Valuable Performer honors at the Saints Awards Reception on Saturday night, junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) sprinted to a 1st place finish in the men's 400 meter hurdles. His new program-record time of 53.29 was an improvement on his ECAC Championship qualification. Bruno remains ranked 1st in New England and 9th nationally in this event. Sophomore Ryan Thomas(Wakefield, R.I.) crossed the line just behind Bruno, taking 2nd place with his personal record time of 54.85. Thomas has also qualified for ECACs in this event.
Bruno and Thomas were also part of the men's 4x400 meter relay team, along with Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) andAdam Julien (New Orleans, La.). The crew won their event, setting a new facility record with their combined time of 3:23.38.
Thomas picked up another win on the day, when he raced to a first place finish in the men's 110 meter hurdles with his time of 16.08. This time qualifies the sophomore for the New England Division III Championships this coming weekend.
Julien snagged an individual win in the 400 meters with his first place time of 49.81. He is now Emmanuel's third athlete to qualify for ECACs in Springfield on May 16-17. On the women's side, Samantha Berthiaume (North Dighton, Mass.) earned a win in the 100m hurdles with her time of 18.09.
Junior Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) led Emmanuel in the field with her first place high jump of 4'9". Ulf also picked up 2nd place in both the long jump (16'2.25") and triple jump (32'0").
Both the men's and women's 4x800 meter relay teams earned second place in their respective races, improving on their Division III New England qualifying times. The women's team of Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.), Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.), Julie Young(Derry, N.H.) and Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.) set a new Emmanuel record with their time of 10:16.45. The men's team of Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.), Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) and David Allen (Hull, Mass.) raced in at 8:19.24.
Senior Nathalie Victoria (Brockton, Mass.) had a solid day for the Saints, competing in five different events both on the track and in the field. Victoria placed 5th overall in the javelin with her throw of 105'5", which extended her senior season, qualifying her for the New England Division III Championships. Victoria also set her personal record in the high jump with her 3rd place leap of 4'9". She took 4th in both the 200 meters (27.89) and 400 meters (64.12), and ran the lead-off leg of the women's 4x400 meter relay team.
Mauer bettered her PR time in the women's steeplechase event, racing to a third place finish in 12:36.90. Freshman Corey Hebert(Acushnet, Mass.) took 2nd in the men's steeplechase, knocking serious time off his own Emmanuel record with a new time of 10:56.27.
Julie Roberts (Williamsburg, Mass.), Joslyn DelSignore (Taunton, Mass.) and Danielle Martin (York, Me.) ran 3rd, 4th and 5th in the women's 3K with times of 12:00.77, 12:05.98 and 12:17.77, respectively. Both Young and Baker were able to capture 4thplace in their individual 800 meter races. Baker raced to a time of 1:59.54, while Young finished in 2:29.65.
With the regular season now complete, sixteen Emmanuel athletes will compete this coming weekend at the Division III New England Championships. The D3 New Englands will be hosted by Colby College on May 3rd and 4th in Waterville, Maine.
