TRACK & FIELD TEAMS COMPETE AT FITCHBURG STATE INVITE
FITCHBURG, Mass. ââ¬â The Emmanuel College Menââ¬â¢s and Womenââ¬â¢s Track & Field Teams competed in Fitchburg State Universityââ¬â¢s Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Despite the cold and windy conditions, the Saints made some great strides. Three different Emmanuel relay teams qualified for post-season championships, including an ECAC qualifying time for the menââ¬â¢s 4x400m squad. Twenty-seven personal records were set and one Emmanuel program record fell, while two individuals and one relay team took first place in their respective events.
FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men's and Women's Track & Field Teams competed in Fitchburg State University's Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Despite the cold and windy conditions, the Saints made some great strides. Three different Emmanuel relay teams qualified for post-season championships, including an ECAC qualifying time for the men's 4x400m squad. Twenty-seven personal records were set and one Emmanuel program record fell, while two individuals and one relay team took first place in their respective events.
Junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) remains ranked 5th in the nation in the 400 meter hurdles, after improving on his ECAC qualifying time and taking 1st place in the event. Bruno crossed the line in 53.63. Sophomore Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) finished in 2nd place with his time of 56.43. Thomas remains ranked in the top 50 nationally. Thomas also garnered a 6th place performance in the 110 meter hurdles with his time 17.24.
On the women's side, sophomore Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) finished a second and a half off her program record time in the 400mH. However, her time of 74.18 was good enough to earn her 7th place in the event.
Junior Meaghan Mauer (South Hadely, Mass.) placed 2nd in the steeplechase, setting a personal record with her time of 12:48.99. Freshman Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) took 7th in the men's steeplechase with an Emmanuel program-record time of 11:27.93.
Junior Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) nabbed 4th place in the 400m with her PR of 62.88. Classmate Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) sprinted to his personal best time of 1:58.28 to take 2nd place in the 800m.
Both Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) and Max Bukowiec (York, Me.) earned personal best times in the men's 5k, with finishes of 17:18.66 and 17:56.80, respectively.
Two men's relay teams and one women's team qualified for post-season competition with their performances in Fitchburg on Saturday. The men's 4x400m team, consisting of Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.), Bruno, Thomas and Adam Julien (New Orleans, La.) clocked in at a 1st place time of 3:23.57, qualifying the team for ECACs.
Both the men's and women's 4x800m relay teams qualified for the Division III New England Championships. Metivier, Egan, Julie Young (Derry, N.H.) and Mauer made up the women's team, which combined for a 3rd place time of 10:49.73. The men's team of Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.), David Allen (Hull, Mass.), Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) and Baker also finished in 3rd place, with their time of 8:34.67.
Junior Kelly Ulf (Lunenburg, Mass.) stole the show for the Saints in the field events. Ulf leaped 15'11" in the long jump to take the win. Freshman Sheila Drakeley (West Suffield, Conn.) recorded her personal best jump of 11'0.25. Ulf also captured 5th place in the high jump, clearing 4'7.75".
The men were led by Michael Morris' (Stoughton, Mass,) 5th place triple jump of 35'3". Sophomore Sam Escolas (Wakefield, R.I.) snagged 6th place in the high jump, with his personal best of 5'7".
The Emmanuel Track & Field Teams are back in action this Saturday, April 13, in Providence, R.I. competing in the Brown University Invitational.
