SAINTS OPEN OUTDOOR SEASON AT MOUNT HOLYOKE INVITATIONAL
SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. – The Emmanuel College Men’s and Women’s Track & Field Teams took a couple of weeks off from competition, while transitioning from the winter to the spring season. The Saints opened the outdoor season by competing in Mount Holyoke’s Spring Fling Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Emmanuel posted some incredible performances, including 10 top-three finishes, 25 personal bests and a new program record. Two EC student-athletes qualified for the ECAC Championships in just the first meet of the season.

The Saints opened the outdoor season by competing in Mount Holyoke's Spring Fling Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Emmanuel posted some incredible performances, including 10 top-three finishes, 25 personal bests and a new program record. Two EC student-athletes qualified for the ECAC Championships in just the first meet of the season.
Junior Nathan Bruno (Lenox, Mass.) stretched his winter success into the spring season, as he opened outdoor competition with a Division III New England Championship and ECAC Championship qualifying performance in the 400 meter hurdles. Bruno's time of 53.78 was a Mount Holyoke facility record and earned him 1st place in the event. Sophomore Ryan Thomas (Wakefield, R.I.) checked in just behind Bruno with a time of 56.26, placing 2nd overall. Thomas' time was also a Division III New England and ECAC qualifier. Currently, Bruno and Thomas are ranked 1st and 5th, respectively, in New England in the 400mH. Thomas notched another 2nd place run, when he sprinted to a 16.80 time in the 100 meter hurdles.
Sophomore Chloe Egan (Burlington, Vt.) also had a terrific 400mH race. Egan's time of 72.85 earned her 2nd place and set a new Emmanuel program record. Meaghan Mauer (South Hadley, Mass.), competing in her hometown, placed 6th in the event with a time of 79.18.
Both Chris Connelly (Quincy, Mass.) and Corey Hebert (Acushnet, Mass.) ran well in the men's 10k, each posting personal bests. Connelly finished 2nd with a time of 36:19.75, while Hebert ran 3rd with a time of 36:53.71.
Junior Chris Baker (Holden, Mass.) nabbed 3rd place in the 800m with his time of 2:01.07. Classmate David Allen (Hull, Mass.) picked up 7th place in the same race with his time of 2:06.28.
Thomas and Baker joined Ben Perdue (West Springfield, Mass.) and Tom Tallo (Lincoln, R.I.) for the men's 4x400 meter relay. The team captured 1st place with their cumulative time of 3:42.46. The Emmanuel men's team of Allen, Bruno, Patrick Callan (Pawling, N.Y.) and Steven Duron (Simi Valley, Calif.) took 3rd place in 3:34.90.
Duron and Molly Metivier (Keene, N.H.) each took 4th place in their respective 400m races. Duron finished in a PR time of 56.13, while Metivier crossed the line at 64.26.
In the field, the Saints were led by Kelly Ulf's (Lunenburg, Mass.) 2nd place long jump of 16'1". Freshman Joseph Ouellette (Brooklyn, Conn.) captured 6th place in his outdoor debut in the shotput with a throw of 33'1". Senior Mitch Moise (Medford, Mass.) also PRed in the shotput with his 8th place throw of 32'9".
Senior Kyle Ford-Withrow (Boston, Mass.), Ouelette and Moise snagged 6th, 7th and 8th places, respectively, in the discus. Ford Withrow's throw reached 107'6". Junior David Weiss (Cohasset, Mass.) led Emmanuel in the javelin with a throw of 145'2".
The Saints will compete again this Saturday, April 6th, when they travel to Fitchburg State University for the Sheehan Memorial Invitational, beginning at 10:00 AM.
